Senior Public Affairs Manager

Job description:

Provide graphic design services and website/social media management to fulfill Combined Joint Task Force- Space Operations (CJTF- SO) Public Affairs (PA) communication objectives by incorporating appropriate themes and messages. Responsible for translating CJTF- SO mission objectives into aesthetically pleasing images that integrate text, graphics, sound, animation, and full-motion video into multimedia products. Edit, design, manage, and archive digital imaging, graphic design, and multimedia files. Use software to create, manage and render graphic designs, multi-page layouts, video productions, online content, and interactive multimedia solutions on official website and social media accounts. Ensures materials comply with U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) policy and operational security and submits to CJTF- SO PA for government review and approval.

Primary duty responsibilities:

  • Plans, executes, and assesses communication capabilities and releases information to a wide and varying audience to support CJTF- SO messaging objectives.
  • Coordinates with higher headquarters, CJTF- SO staff, subject matter experts, and subordinate units to translate complex concepts and information into understandable information.
  • Ensures PA products and material adhere to USSPACECOM, government, and DoD Public Affairs policy, guidance, and instructions; submit to CJTF- SO PA Director for approval.
  • Helps develop processes and procedures that support the creation of PA plans and products that guide the communication actions of CJTF- SO and functional components.
  • Ensure CJTF- SO PA Communication Integration capabilities are included in USSPACECOM deliberate and contingency plans.
  • Create multi-media content and process AF Form 833 workorder requests to support tactical to strategic as well as deliberate to emerging operations within government-established timelines.
  • Draft, maintain, staff, and revise multimedia products as directed and approved by CJTF- SO government employees.
  • Achieve CJTF- SO tasks and USSPACECOM strategic objectives by communicating with internal and external audiences through the creation of professional, high-quality video and broadcast products.
  • Serve as production coordinator and video editor, to include written content. Meet video preproduction, production, and postproduction timelines utilizing Adobe software.
  • Create story concept/treatments, storyboards, and written scripts. Perform video research, set design, lighting, and operate digital SLR cameras and sound recording equipment.
  • Create video and audio products by conducting non-linear editing on Apple computers using Adobe software.
  • Collaborate with multimedia staff to incorporate animation, chroma keying, and matte effects.
  • Maintain accountability of video and audio equipment and ensure they perform IAW government standards.
  • Create news stories, feature articles, fact sheets, or other written products for placement and distribution in a format/medium directed by CJTF- SO PA.
  • Mentor and oversee the daily activities of junior public affairs contractor specialists; provide inputs to Monthly Status Reports on PA activities to contract Team Lead.
  • Comply with CJTF- SO Operational Security and Public Release procedures, Public Affairs Guidance, and DoD, Combatant Command and local policy guidance and operating instructions.

Relevant experience:

Must have 10 years’ experience in:

  • Multimedia news writing in Associated Press style, editing, and production utilizing Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF; reporting; and research.
  • Adobe software tools After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator for video production.
  • Non-linear editing on Apple computers using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects software.
  • Military-community relations techniques and practices.
  • Leading and managing Department of Defense teams who write and edit periodicals, news, and feature stories for release to civilian media.
  • Management of official government website and social media accounts.
Job Requirements

Required education:

  • BA/BS degree. Knowledge is mandatory of English composition, grammar, and spelling; research methods; interview techniques; regulations and directives concerning release of information; and advanced communication theory.

Certification:

  • Completion of the Public Affairs & Communication Strategy Qualification Course is mandatory.

Security Clearance:

  • Current Top-Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility.

  • Peterson SFB, Colorado Springs, CO.
