Preferred Primary Care Physicians is Hiring a Medical Receptionist / Medical Assistant Near Munhall, PA

Preferred Primary Care Physicians (PPCP) is currently recruiting for a Full-Time Medical Assistant/Medical Receptionist for our office in the Munhall area of Pittsburgh, located at: 3212 Main St, Homestead, PA 15120. The successful candidate MUST have very strong medical terminology skills and possess previous medical assistant experience and/or training. This position will primarily have Medical Receptionist duties such as phone work, checking patients in/out, and handling authorizations. In addition, the successful candidate will also have some back office medical assistant duties such as rooming patients, taking vitals, and administering injections.

General Purpose of the Medical Assistant/Medical Receptionist:

The Medical Receptionist serves as the initial person to greet, instruct and direct all persons visiting or calling the medical practice utilizing skills of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality in a professional manner.

Medical Receptionist/Medical Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Greet Patients that arrive according to the established guidelines of the office
  • Check-in patients, verify and update all information in electronic medical system and collect co-payments
  • Check-out patients, scheduling necessary appointments
  • Maintain computer scheduling in accordance with office protocol
  • Answer telephones, screen calls, take messages and provide information in accordance with established protocol
  • Collection of payments and proper cash reconciliation
  • Provide clerical support as needed
  • Screen visitors and respond to routine requests for information
  • Closeout procedures, gathering encounter forms, processing daily activities of coding, batching, billing and hospital visit.

Medical Assistant/Medical Receptionist Essential Functions:

  • Escorts patients to and from exam or treatment rooms as appropriate. Records all patient data prior to the physician or nurse seeing the patient. This includes vital signs, height and weight, allergies, medications, chief complaint, reason for visit, etc.
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as directed by the physician.
  • Answers and returns patient phone calls as directed. Is responsible for contacting pharmacies for prescriptions or may answer patient telephone calls for referrals. May handle other patient telephone calls as directed by the physician, nurse or Office Manager.
  • Obtains all necessary patient record information, lab data, diagnostics, consults, etc. as required by the physician or nurse for assessment of the patient's medical status.
  • Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed in accordance with OSHA and universal safety precautions
  • Assists with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Assists with scheduling tests, procedures or appointments to follow-up on test results
  • Prepares, maintains and stocks exam and treatment rooms. Orders supplies as needed.
  • Obtains new patient information and any test results.
  • Assists with administrative duties such as typing, faxing, reception duties, etc.
  • Processes instruments and equipment as needed.
  • Informs physician of patient reschedule or no-shows.
  • Assists with delegated patient education activities including but not limited to distributing educational literature, etc.
  • Maintains the strictest confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the physician, nurse or office manager.

Education:

A high school diploma or GED is required. Graduate from an accredited school of medical assistant. Six (6) months of medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting preferred, however open to new graduate applicants.
