A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BILLING SPECIALIST

This position completes billing entries while completing ongoing self-audits to ensure accuracy. The Billing Specialist/Chart Auditor breaks down patient charts, processes physician orders for billing purposes or clinical follow-up. This position may also back up other office functions.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
• Answers phone calls and routes to the appropriate staff member or takes a message and ensures that the message is received.
• Completes billing entries.
• Audits member records to prepare for billing to ensure accuracy.
• Breaks down patient charts, processes physician orders for billing purposes.
• Maintains member records and keeps filing up to date.
• Understands and adheres to established Agency policies and procedures.
• Lives the PLUS Standards in the care of Members, daily tasks, and interactions with others.
• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality which are critical in order to complete the day-to-day tasks of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A BILLING SPECIALIST

  • Associate degree in a related health or financial field
  • 2 years of experience working with medical records or in healthcare billing.
  • Knowledge about Word, Excel, and email
