Summary

Our client is is a leading application Engineering Consulting firm in the Washington, D.C. metro region specializing in Management Services, Technology Solutions and Facilities Services. They partner with and assist Federal, State and local government agencies; private sector Energy Services Companies (ESCOs); and Commercial entities in the design and implementation of their various Engineering and Technology related projects. Additionally, they are able to leverage an engineering team with proven technology industry experience that resulted in multi-million-dollar contracts within federal government, state & local government clients!

Responsibilities

Our client is seeking a System Analyst II who will be integral in understanding, replicating, and documenting Oracle SQL and PL/SQL code used in the VDOT Traffic Monitoring System (TMS). The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate and comprehensive technical documentation and ensuring the continual updating of such documents. 

• Task 1: Understand and replicate results, and produce technical documentation for procedures and processes used by the Senior Oracle Database Architect/Engineer in managing foundational tasks of the TMS

  • Examples of tasks include generating traffic statistics such as AADTs, MADW, DVMT, and various traffic factors
  • Generate mandated federal reports such as HPMS submittals
  • Shadow the Senior Oracle Database Architect/Engineer, observe work, and take notes
  • Ensure documentation is complete, understandable, and up-to-date
  • Run Oracle scripts in a test environment and validate results against production
  • Explore the creation of parallel non-Oracle SQL code that processes data outside Oracle and writes it back to the Oracle database

• Task 2: Perform similar tasks for other modules of the VDOT TMS, including Payment and Link Management

  • Work closely with Traffic Data Analysts, Traffic Monitoring Systems Engineers, and Engineering Techs

• Task 3: Understand the data, perform data cleaning and preparation, and conduct data analysis and visualization

Requirements

• At least 4 years of technical writing experience
• At least 3 years of experience with PL/SQL development
• At least 2 years of experience with data retrieval using SQL
• At least 2 years of experience in scripting/coding in a modern language such as Python (pandas, numpy) or R, working with data frames
• Strong written communication skills, especially for technical audiences
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and follow technical guidance from VDOT staff
• Knowledge of relational database design
• Data engineering skills (cleaning, preparation, validation)
• Data analysis and visualization skills
• Exposure to or some knowledge of transportation data
