Optometrist Job Duties & Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have a few years of experience working as a licensed Optometrist and a background in treating eye-related disorders and conditions, but we are open to hiring someone who is newer to the industry if they are the best candidate. Primarily, this Optometrist would focus on filling glasses and contact lens prescriptions for our younger patients, monitoring for current and/or future medical threats like dry eye, glaucoma and other ocular illnesses that may run in our patients' families. This new hire would also support our Ophthalmologist by performing basic post-operative visits and refractions as well. We will also consider candidates who have worked as opticians and have recently fulfilled their educational requirements to become Optometrists. However, you must have passed the licensing exam prior to your hire date. Your regular duties will include:
Perform comprehensive eye exams
Diagnose and assist in the treatment of ocular disease
Prescribe corrective lenses
Provide pre- and post-operative care to surgical patients
Promote healthy vision by counseling and educating patients
Maintain detailed patient records regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and progress
Optometrist Job Requirements & Qualifications
Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree
Valid state license to practice optometry
Ability to communicate with a wide range of patient personalities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
A strong sense of workplace professionalism and personal ethics
Customer-service orientation with excellent interpersonal skills
