Description

Preble Street's Veteran Housing Services (VHS) team provides services and supports to veterans throughout Maine toward overcoming barriers to finding and maintaining housing. With funding from the U.S. Dept. of Veteran Affairs Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), Preble Street's VHS program offers case management; employment, benefit, and resource referrals; intensive housing counseling; and direct financial assistance for housing to veterans who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

A part-time Outreach Caseworker position is available with VHS in southern Maine. Guided by Preble Street's mission and informed by Housing First, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed service approaches, Outreach Caseworkers provide outreach and transitional case management to veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, facilitating access and connections to available resources for housing, medical care, mental health, and substance use disorder services and benefits. Outreach Caseworkers also cultivate and maintain collaborative, positive relationships with service providers, law enforcement, shelter staff, and other community partners to maximize available resources for veterans.

The schedule for this part-time (20 hrs/week) position will be 8 hours on Sundays with the Street Outreach Van with 12 flexible hours throughout the week within the 8:00 am - 4:30 pm timeframe.

Qualifications

Caseworker qualifications for the position include a combination of education in social work or a related field and relevant work experience; experience working with people experiencing homelessness or in social services is preferred. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred but not required; candidates with a comparable combination of education and experience are encouraged to apply.

Additional qualifications include an understanding of and alignment with Preble Street's mission, positive regard for individuals accessing services for homelessness and poverty, commitment to providing low-barrier, high-quality services to people experiencing homelessness; strong organizational and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products; and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Veteran status is not required for this position. Regional travel is required, with mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use for work-related travel.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The hourly rate of pay for this part-time position is $20.70 per hour.

This position is eligible for the part-time benefits program, which includes sick time and paid time off; eligibility to enroll in the 403(b) retirement plan with employer match; eligibility to enroll in the health and dental insurance plans with pro-rated premium contributions; and access to the Employee Assistance Program.
