5 Registered Nurses needed at Northern Navajo Medical Center

The Nurse must be skilled in physical assessment, following Provider orders, administering medications, immunizations and starting IV(s). Their ability for critical thinking is of paramount importance as they often have to make decisions regarding patient care. Must be able to follow verbal as well as written instructions. Be familiar with the Indian Health Service (I.H.S.) Electronic Health Record (EHR) or other types of electronic health record and be capable of utilizing it. Case management for the Provider is also an element that they must perform. Charting must done within 24 hours of patient contact and must be accurate and reflect the patient's complaint, procedure and outcome.

Knowledge Required by the Position

Professional knowledge of and ability to apply nursing care principles, practices, and procedures required to assess needs of wide variety of medical, surgical, obstetrics, geriatrics, gynecology and pediatric patients, as well as, knowledge of the normal course of diseases, anticipated complications and indicated therapeutic intervention.

Skill in critical thinking, meaning skill in clarifying goals, examining assumptions, discerning hidden values, evaluating evidence, accomplishing actions, and assessing conclusions, is required to analyze the results of various medical procedures and translate into appropriate nursing interventions.

Basic knowledge of the Indian Health Service's Electronic Health Record (EHR) or other types of electronic health record sufficient to utilize it in charting in the patient's health record.

Ability to provide individual and family counseling, guidance, and health instruction so that they can assume responsibility for their own health issues.

Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, immunizations and/or desensitizing serums dispensed and their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use.

Knowledge and skill in operation of specialized medical equipment, such as, cardiac monitors, nebulizers, fetal monitors, etc.

Experience:

• Thirty-six 36 months of nursing experience, with a minimum of two (2) years in the specialty.
• License/Registration: All nurses shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States. 
• Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory for all specialties. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
