Shop Foreman
Role, Function & Organization
This is a working foreman position and is expected make all necessary repairs, completely run the shop in all aspects of repairs as well as maintain the equipment throughout the day and lead the field mechanic crew. The Shop Foreman will plan weekly service schedule, initiate monthly compliance inspections based off of our annual test schedules, phone support for field mechanics, procuring parts on behalf of our field mechanics to enhance efficiency in the shop. Organize repairs and complete in a timely manner, utilizing Fleetio for work orders.
In addition to Master Mechanic duties, this top classification requires a truly exceptional individual who is completely familiar with all phases of mechanical work. The Shop Foreman must be competent to thoroughly understand heavy construction equipment, hydraulics, diesel engines and other complex equipment. This position must be able to work without supervision and be able to supervise and train other mechanics in their work.

Duties and Responsibilities
Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination:
Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others, and bringing it to their attention.
Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero injuries.
Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel.
Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, PTOs, brake systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems and interphases, cranes, digger derricks, aerial devices, systems and components.
Perform DOT inspections, perform monthly, annual inspections and dielectric testing on equipment.
Complete repairs noted on all inspections, facilitate all the necessary documentation and paper work for all repairs and inspections.
Install and trouble shoot telematics in fleet equipment.
Performs tune ups, brake jobs, functional adjustments to aerial equipment, digger derricks, cranes and other fleet equipment, preventative maintenance, metal fabrication and welding, respond to road service calls and routinely scheduled visits to job sites to perform repairs, preventative maintenance and inspections.
Assist Fleet Manager with maintaining appropriate service and repair records.
Assist Fleet Manager with researching and purchasing equipment parts and supplies.
Responsible for the full range of maintenance and repair needed for heavy-duty trucks, large construction equipment and tractor trailers.
Keep all vehicles and equipment in good running condition, including gas, diesel and electrical engines.
Must be able to work without supervision and be able to supervise and train other mechanics in their work.

Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and engines.
Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of motorized vehicles and equipment.
Complete service & repair tasks from basic to complex, independently with minimal supervision
Knowledge of body and frame construction.
Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools.
Skill in the use of gas and electric welding equipment, mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists.
Skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
Skill & knowledge base to effectively service and repair machinery and implement new service and repair techniques.
Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions.
Ability to read manuals and schematics.
Ability to rebuild engines and major driveline components.
Ability to communicate with others about repair work needed.
Ability to determine work priorities
Ability to order and procure parts & supplies
Acquire an effective knowledge of service procedures for all fleet equipment
Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of cranes, digger derricks, various bucket trucks, wire stringing equipment and other various equipment.
Ability to utilize operators parts & maintenance manuals to determine procedures in identifying parts
Intermediate computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft programs and ability to learn new programs easily
Qualifications and Requirements
Valid CDL driver’s license and medical card
MN Certified DOT Inspector preferred, would be acceptable if obtained within first 6 months of employment.
Provide I-9 document to establish work eligibility
High school education or GED is required
Associate’s degree in Heavy Duty Truck/Heavy Equipment repair or five years of experience performing repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment
Must supply a basic set of tools for work in the shop
Qualified to perform annual inspections
Physical Requirements
Ability to maintain a consistent workload that involves moderate manual labor. Projects may be inside or outside, making exposure to the elements possible.
Overtime and/or long hours may be required.
Travel to various construction sites is essential, exposing employee to outdoor elements, noise, and the need to stand and walk. Other requirements may include the ability to kneel, crawl, bend, climb ladders, reach and handle with fingers, and differentiate colors.
Ability to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.
Ability to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards.
