Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Prevention Services provides leadership, supervision, and general oversight for the staff and interns who provide a range of services within the Prevention Services department. The Assistant Director of Prevention Services collaborates closely with the Director of Prevention Services to ensure the successful daily operations of the programs offered by Prevention Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Director of Prevention Services in the overall management of the Prevention Services department, including day-to-day operations, the writing and implementation of departmental policies and procedures, and annual departmental planning. 
  • Works collaboratively with Director of Prevention Services to identify and implement the expansion of Prevention Services within the agency and in the community setting.
  • Directly supervises Prevention Services staff as assigned by the Director of Prevention Services, according to the departmental organizational chart. 
  • Coordinates and/or provides ongoing training to Prevention Services staff and interns, ensuring that grant-specific requirements are being followed. 
  • Assists with the hiring of new Prevention Services staff, including the writing of job descriptions, conducting interviews, and orientation to Prevention Services. Assumes direction of the Prevention Services department in the absence of the Director of Prevention Services or as otherwise directed.
  • Travels to all PIHC centers where Prevention Services are offered on a consistent basis to observe day-to-day operations, supervise assigned staff, and provide overall direction.
  • Assists the Director of Prevention Services, Prevention Services’ program managers, and PIHC department directors and managers with the completion of grant-related reports as needed.
  • Coordinates and facilitates departmental meetings as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possesses and demonstrates an understanding of the fundamentals of HIV prevention and services.
  • Possesses working knowledge of all programs within the Prevention Services department.
  • Possesses and demonstrates an understanding of the role of Prevention Services staff in the operationalization of programs within the Prevention Services department.
  • Possesses working knowledge of Federal, State and local grant projects, including goals, objectives and deliverables. 
  • Possesses excellent organization, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Able to work effectively with a high level of autonomy.
  • Able to develop, implement, and monitor programs.
  • Able to assist Prevention Services staff with conflict resolution, both within the department and with members of all other PIHC departments.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Recognizes when and how to effectively navigate between working independently to working collaboratively as necessitated by task(s) or project(s).

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (public health, psychology, health education, or health care administration)

 Experience:

  • 3 year’s professional experience in HIV prevention services setting.
  • 3 year’s supervisory experience in a professional setting
  • 3 year’s professional experience in a HIV-focused services delivery setting
  • 3 year’s professional experience with an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system

Preferred requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in related field (public health, psychology, health education, or health care administration) or equivalent

  • Must provide direct services in addition to the administrative role.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide variety of people, including staff, volunteers, board members and community representatives.
  • Requirements: 
  • Experience working with or within diverse populations.
