POSITION TITLE: PROGRAM SPECIALIST - MATHEMATICS REPORTS TO: COORDINATOR
OF MATHEMATICS


OVER-TIME STATUS:
EXEMPT PAY GRADE: 374
JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of the program specialist will be to implement an instructional coaching model to help
close the student achievement gap by building teacher capacity through implementation of effective instructional practices. The program specialist will increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction by collaborating with teachers, modeling instruction, co-planning and providing actionable feedback. The Program Specialist will also assist in curriculum development and revisions to include division level assessment creation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Coordinating the development, implementation and coordination of curriculum and programs in the area of specialty.
  • On-going school visits to assist in monitoring effective mathematics classroom instruction.
    ? Working collaboratively with teachers in assigned schools in co-planning and co-teaching
    model lessons, providing appropriate feedback.
    ? Analyzing mathematics data to determine benchmarks, establish goals, and monitor
    improvement in schools.
    ? Developing, conducting, and coordinating professional development activities for teachers on
    best practices, mathematics resources, and specific instructional topics as identified from
    analysis of assessment data, classroom visits, and/or requests from administrators.
    ? Assisting with developing appropriate division level assessments instruments.
    ? Developing and revising curriculum to meet standards and address the needs of all students.
    ? Assisting with the evaluation and selection of textbooks and other instructional materials.
    ? Working with other specialists and/or supervisors to integrate vocation, technical, and
    academic skills in coordination of the total instructional program.
    ? Keeping abreast of new technology, national, state, and local trends in mathematics
    education through attendance at professional conferences, participation in workshops, and
    ongoing review of related literature and research.
    ? Performing other related duties as assigned by the Coordinator
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A comprehensive knowledge of mathematics and instructional strategies; ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally, and in written form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school Principals, other staff, and the general public.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The Mathematics Program Specialist has completed a minimum of five years of successful classroom
teaching experience in which mathematics was an important responsibility; has a Master's Degree in an
education field and holds a math specialist endorsement. This individual provides support at the division level as a part of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The Mathematics Program Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Mathematics Education.
