    Director of Academics for Secondary Schools

    Summary:
    The Director of Secondary Academics plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless integration of curriculum development initiatives with the district's strategic plan. This position collaborates with various stakeholders, including the Elementary Network and school principals, to map out curriculum pathways, coordinate the procurement of essential materials, and support instructional planning. The Coordinator also leads professional learning initiatives, conducts data analysis, and fosters collaboration among educators to enhance student learning outcomes. The Director of Academics for Secondary Schools reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools.
    Key Responsibilities:
    Curriculum Development, Alignment, and Implementation
    • Ensure alignment of curriculum development initiatives with the district's strategic plan.
    • Collaborate with the Elementary Network to map out curriculum pathways, ensuring coherence and progression.
    • Coordinate the procurement/selection and distribution of essential curriculum materials for secondary school programs.
    • Align grading policies with curriculum and assessment practices.
    Instructional Planning and Support
    • Develop comprehensive pacing calendars for curriculum units/modules and assessments, aligned with academic standards and goals.
    • Provide sample instructional blocks and schedules to promote consistency in teaching practices.
    • Design a vision for assessment methodologies and tools, emphasizing data-driven instruction and student learning outcomes.
    Professional Learning Initiatives
    • In collaboration with school leaders and Network Team members, develop a robust professional learning plan for educators, including summer sessions and ongoing support throughout the school year.
    • Conduct training sessions for stakeholders on curriculum internalization and lesson preparation processes, as well as key instructional strategies to ensure alignment to curriculum and equitable instruction.
    • Ensure key stakeholders receive professional development from curriculum vendors providers during the initial implementation phase.
    Collaboration and Monitoring
    • Collaborate with Network Team members and principals to schedule progress monitoring walkthroughs, offering feedback and support.
    • Conduct regular walkthroughs with principals to monitor instructional schedules, curriculum utilization, and identify areas for improvement.
    • Co-observe collaborative planning sessions with Principals and Network Team to assess execution and identify areas for enhancement.
    Data Analysis and Communication
    • Using Strategic Plan as a guide, determine key metrics for program success and establish a progress monitoring plan and data review schedule.
    • Analyze data to identify trends and inform decision-making processes.
    • Communicate progress and challenges to stakeholders, fostering transparency and accountability.
    Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in Education or related field (Doctorate preferred).
    • Extensive experience in leadership roles within secondary education.
    • Deep understanding of curriculum development, assessment practices, and instructional strategies.
    • Proven track record in designing and implementing professional learning initiatives.
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams toward common goals.
    • Knowledge of educational technology tools and their integration into instructional practices.
    • Experience working with diverse student populations and supporting equity and inclusion initiatives in education.
    Working Conditions:
    • This position is based in a school district office environment. However, a substantial amount of time will be spent in the schools.
    • Some travel may be required to be school sites.
    • Flexible hours may be necessary to accommodate professional learning sessions and school events.
