Portland Community College is Hiring a Fire Protection Tech Program Specialist Near Portland, OR

Under the direction of management and in collaboration with faculty and staff, the Fire Protection Program Specialist is responsible for developing and coordinating the fire skills academies and related activities; reporting and ensuring PCC’s educational and testing services and record keeping are in compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), Oregon Occupational Safety and Health statutes and other related state statutes; and for coordinating the work of the Fire Protection program’s instructional support techs, (including facilities and equipment maintenance, inventory and tracking of all equipment and supplies). Acts as a point of contact and liaison for the Fire Protection Technology Program.

  • Ability to ensure program adherence to NFPA professional qualifications and standards, as well as experience managing multiple projects, budgets, facilities, major equipment, contracts, technology, training and/or personnel development, and competing priorities while promoting an equity-focused educational and work environment
  • Experience working with multiple industry partners and both internal and external stakeholders to creatively and collaboratively seek continuous improvement in reaching program outcomes and student success
  • Experience training or teaching Fire Service programs in a variety of modalities or educational delivery methods, and with an interdisciplinary approach with both Fire & EMS, while working to embed Culturally Responsive Education in curriculum and practices
  • Drive collaborative change and innovation in a dynamic program, successfully applying a solution-focused instructional approach, program review, evaluation of current and future issues/trends, and advocacy for diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated communication skills with a wide range of students with varied experiences, perspectives, and unique goals, especially from communities who have been historically underrepresented
  • Experience as a structural firefighter, first line supervisor (company officer experience), and an emergency medical responder

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S) Degree in Fire Protection, Emergency Services, Public Administration or related field from an accredited institution
  • Five years of experience as a firefighter, fire officer and/or training officer with emergency response experience

Additionally, this position requires the following:

  • IFSAC, ProBoard, or State of Oregon DPSST FF II certification or equivalent.
  • IFSAC, ProBoard, or State of Oregon DPSST Instructor I certification or equivalent

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work is often performed in a variety of settings, including an office; outdoors during drill activities, off-site at regional fire academies and in a live fire training environment.

Ability to provide own transportation to and from campuses and/or offsite functions may be required.

Work hours may vary from term to term; including some remote work, evenings and weekends.

May require physical effort such as lifting and handling of fire hose, fire equipment and other equipment in excess of 50 pounds.

Often requires extended walking and standing outdoors, off-site and in inclement weather.
