POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Competencies:

The staff member must demonstrate knowledge of:

ØSigns and symptoms of substance use disorder.

ØSigns and symptoms of mental health disorder

ØCrisis intervention services on-site and off-site, face-to-face, within the home, and community

ØDe-escalation techniques

ØAssessing the client’s strengths and mental health needs accurately and objectively

ØProviding selected therapeutic communication to clients

ØClients rights and confidentiality

ØTyping and basic computer usage.

ØWillingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays according to on-call rotation

ØThe requirement of adhering to policies and procedures of the agency and professional standards.

The staff member must demonstrate skills in:

ØEstablishing trust between clients and treatment team members.

ØProviding information and referrals to community services both in person and via the phone

ØAssisting in implementation of goals and objectives identified in treatment plans

ØInteracting with clients as peers by sharing common experiences.

ØAssisting clients in understanding and managing their disorder and symptoms.

ØAssisting clients in connecting with self-help groups when appropriate.

ØAssisting clients in gaining access to local programs and services.

ØClarifying clients’ understanding of their rights and responsibilities as a recipient of substance use disorder services.

ØCompleting all necessary as required

ØMaintaining strict confidentiality at all times.

ØCommunication styles that generate a positive work environment.

ØLocating, coordinating and accessing appropriate services for client.

Essential Functions:

Essential functions include the following.Other duties may be assigned.

ØCompletion of required assessments screenings, including but not limited to the Columbia Suicide Rating Scale (CSSRS).

ØEngage individuals in the crisis planning process and completion of a safety plan.

ØBuild rapport to support increased engagement, instillation of hope, and care coordination.

ØFollow-up with individuals in-person, via phone, or telehealth within two days of the initial crisis intervention

ØProvide opportunity for warm hand-offs to identified resource needs (insurance navigation, housing, benefits and entitlements, primary care, educational, or vocational supports)

ØProvide referral to medication management to monitor medication compliance, education and training about medications, monitoring side-effects, and providing other nursing/medical assessments.

ØProvide referral to Case Management (children’s or adult) when appropriate

ØAct as informant and advocate to clients regarding consumer rights and responsibilities.

ØDevelop and maintain close working relationship with management staff, co-workers and peers.

ØParticipate in team staffing to provide client and peer insight.

ØCollaborates with treatment team to increase patient engagement in treatment as evidenced by consistent attendance at huddles, weekly team meetings, staffing, clinical supervision, and with community partners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ØFor CAPRCI applicants, per federal regulations, long-term recovery for a minimum of three years and supportive documentation is required.

ØHigh school diploma or equivalent required.

ØCompletion of a Peer Recovery Coach Certification (CAPRCI) or Certified Recovery Specialist (CHW/CRS) course is required within 90 days of employment

ØCompletion of CPR is required within 30 days of employment.

ØOne year of peer coaching or related experience preferred.

ØValid Indiana Driver’s license, personal owned auto insurance.

ØSuccessful completion of a background check.
