Porter Gaud School is Hiring a Lower School Teacher Grades 1-4 Near Charleston, SC

Lower School Teacher Grades 1- 4 (beginning with the 2024-25 school year)

Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, co-educational day school of 1,650 students in preschool through grade 12. The Lower School division has an opening for a full-time Lower School Teacher for grades 1 - 4.

The Lower School Teacher will be able to teach students in grades 1 through 4. This teacher needs to be able to work both independently and collaboratively and be able to teach effectively from the established grade level curriculum. This teacher will be assigned to teach one grade as a part of a grade level team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Creates a learning environment that encourages a love of learning and respect for others.
  • Establishes and actively maintains a class environment where excellence in learning is honored and where respectful interactions between and among students are valued.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and assessments which address multiple learning styles.
  • Participates as an active team member with the other grade level faculty as well as the
  • Lower School community as a whole.
  • Works ably with teachers in grades 1 - 12 in a specific curricular area.
  • Communicates effectively with all constituencies within the School.

  • Shows evidence of organization, punctuality, and self-motivation.
  • Exhibits an ability to work effectively and collaboratively with the grade level team and all Lower School teachers.

The Lower School teacher will display a continuous commitment to developing the attitudes, knowledge, and skills (intercultural competence) to engage in appropriate and effective communication with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We desire candidates who will contribute to the school's efforts to continue creating a more inclusive and equitable community where all individuals can develop a sense of belonging.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.Preferably, a degree in elementary education or early childhood education.
  • Related teaching experience (preferably at the elementary level and in an independent school setting).

Reporting: The Lower School Teacher reports directly to the Head of Lower School.

Salary: Salary offer will be commensurate with experience.
