Portales Municipal Schools is Hiring an Elementary Teacher - Bilingual Near Portales, NM

Job Title: Dual-Language Teacher

This position is for the 2024-2025 School year at Lindsey-Steiner Elementary School

Summary: The Dual-Language teacher is responsible for teaching students in two languages, providing instruction in both English and Spanish while helping students to become proficient in speaking, reading, and writing both languages. Must be knowledgeable of curriculum development and lesson planning. Must be able to develop assessments to evaluate student progress.

Requirements: Must hold a NMPED K-8 License with a Bilingual Education Endorsement or a K-12 Specialty License with endorsements in Bilingual Education, Math, Language Arts, Science, or Social Studies or Middle School 5-9 License with endorsements in Bilingual Education, Math, Language Arts, Science, or Social Studies, or the ability to obtain one of the above licenses. Prefer K-8 License with Bilingual Education Endorsement or other license with Language Arts and Science Endorsements. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Accurately demonstrate knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum.
  2. Communicates with and obtains feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
  3. Manage the educational setting in a manner that promotes student behavior and a safe and healthy environment.
  4. Recognize student diversity and creates an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self concept.
  5. Support the value of an education.
  6. Participate in curriculum study and revision.
  7. Respond to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  8. Facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
  9. Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students, with appropriate instruction.
  10. Communicate effectively with other Portales Municipal Schools, staff, parents, and students.
  11. Work effectively with community organizations.
  12. Demonstration of teacher competencies for annual evaluation, licensure advancement or renewal.
  13. Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
  14. Demonstrate ethical behavior.
  15. Engage in self-development.
  16. Respond to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  17. Support the philosophy and mission of the Portales Municipal Schools.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Motivate students through effective communication and appropriate feedback.
  2. Prepare for instruction and show written evidence of preparation.
  3. Complete duties (Hall, bus, etc.) as assigned.
  4. Leave adequate preparations for a substitute.
  5. Select, use, and interpret evaluation data.
  6. Attend extra curricular activities.
  7. May supervise educational assistants, practicum students, and student teachers.
  8. Understand and apply learning theories.
  9. Be willing to attend and implement professional development training as needed.
  10. Demonstrate awareness for the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
  11. Adhere to Student Individualized Education Plans, 504 plans, etc and made necessary modifications.
  12. Adhere to confidentiality laws and regulations.
  13. Be knowledgeable about New Mexico about New Mexico Common Core Standards and Benchmarks.
  14. Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
  15. Be able to appropriately and effectively evaluate students.
  16. Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate and approved instruction.
  17. Coordinate and supervise field trips, as appropriate.
  18. Attend faculty meetings as needed and serve on various committees.
  19. Plan and implement effective lessons, using time, materials, and resources.
  20. Display a thorough, comprehensive, knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
  21. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
  22. Follow district policies and building rules/regulations.
  23. Obtain advance approval from the Principal for new or unusual activities.
  24. Complete duties as assigned.
  25. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
  26. Attend and assist as appropriate with school events such as musical programs, athletics, student recognition ceremonies, graduation, and open house.
  27. Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
