Portage County, WI is Hiring a Library Associate - Rosholt Near Stevens, WI

The Portage County Public Library is hiring a part-time (24 hrs / wk) Library Associate to join their team! This position is based out of the Rosholt location however some hours may be spent at the other branch locations.
This position starts at $17.74 / hr.
What are the primary job duties?
 

Performs public service activities.

  • Prepare circulation desk for use. Check out, check in and shelve materials. Issue borrowers’ cards. Collect overdue charges and other fees, handle cash. Place and process holds. All according to established procedures.
  • Maintain the appearance of library. Reshelve misplaced items in proper alpha-numeric order. Empty book return. Keep bulletin boards, posters, and artwork current. Clean library materials as needed.
  • Answer telephone, answer questions in person or by telephone (regarding status of patron and circulation records) Refer library customers to appropriate personnel as necessary.
  • Assist, and instruct when suitable, patrons of all ages in the use of the library's on-line catalog and other computer-based products (Libby, Badgernet). Assist borrowers in location of library materials. Respond to basic readers’ advisory and reference questions. Refer library customers with complex questions to reference desk personnel at the Stevens Point location.
  • Drive library vehicle to deliver materials to other branch library sites or run errands.
  • Monitor public computers. Provide assistance to individuals using public computers and other equipment (printers, scanners, photocopier, fax machine.).
  • Maintain patron confidentiality (WI Statutes Chapter 43.30).

Circulation and clerical activities.

  • Open and close branch library building. Balance cash drawer. Perform book repairs. Compile statistics.
  • Assist with weeding under direction of librarian.
  • Rotate library owned material between library sites according to established procedures.
  • Receive and prepare periodicals and newspapers according to procedures. Contact vendors and process claims.
  • Respond to user complaints concerning problems with circulation procedures; look into reasons for problem described, explain procedure, correct any procedural errors made by the library, refer to Branch Librarian problems for which assistance is needed. 
  • Create and print reports, such as “Trace” and “Rotation”. Search for missing library materials, if found, clear customer record and correct bibliographic records according to procedures.
  • As part of regular duties or as a substitute, provide extension services to Portage county residents who are homebound (physically unable to utilize the library). Determine reading interests, select items, maintain records, and deliver library owned materials via US mail. Process returns.
  • As part of regular duties or as a substitute, provide extension services to Portage county senior centers. Maintain and deliver a rotating collection of library owned materials.

Programming and marketing.

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement programming for patrons of all ages at all library sites, virtually, and outside locations. Programs will include but not be limited to story times, tours, Book Club, crafts, Early Literacy stations, Take and Makes, passive programs, book talks, the Summer Library Program and the Winter Reading program. Some programs may be live or recorded, using video equipment.
  • Assist with the development of and maintenance of program aides. Maintain their neat and organized storage.
  • Create and maintain eye catching displays for patrons of all ages.
  • Develop and prepare flyers and other publicity to be shared via print, the internet and social media.

What are the minimum requirements?

  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Some familiarity with children's literature and/or childhood education preferred.
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
