Portage County Ohio is Hiring a Childcare Certification Specialist Near Ravenna, OH

Under the direction of a JFS Supervisor for the Portage County Department of Job and Family Services, incumbent is directly responsible for processing applications and ensuring compliance for in-home day-care providers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Recruits Family Day Care Home Providers through work in the community, public speaking, publicizing and working with other agencies and the Child Care Resource and Referral Agency
  • Disseminates Provider application information and refers to the state website for application completion.
  • Processes the applicant through the requirements to meet certification, insures that the Provider meets all certification requirements.
  • Maintains a complete record of all required inspections, verifications and changes for the continued certification of the Provider.
  • Follows all applicable certification procedures for certifying, decertifying and denying a Child Day Care Home Provider application.
  • Conducts Step Up To Quality inspections and refers providers for necessary training.
  • Directs providers where to get the basic training component in the Health and Safety arena and/or any other training as required by rule.
  • Arranges, provides or refers individuals who need additional training to maintain certification to resources to meet those needs.
  • Acts as a resource for the Providers who are certified.
  • Responds to all complaints regarding Providers; sometimes with the assistance of local law enforcement of the public children's service's agency.
  • Respond to all benefit related inquiries and correspondence from individuals/families and other agencies in a timely manner: answering telephones, checking voicemail, checking e-mails, and seeing individuals who come to the agency.
  • Proposes and enacts denial or revocation of certification for Providers who do not meet or are in violation of the requirements. Serves as a liaison with day care eligibility staff and maintains contact and correspondence with numerous other community and governmental agencies.
  • May carry a child care eligibility caseload.
  • Prepares quarterly provider newsletters with pertinent information and upcoming changes.
  • Obtains information, prepares reports, maintains records and files. Attends conferences, workshops, training sessions and other meetings.
  • Enter and maintain digital imaging files.
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
  • Keep current by reading and updating the various manuals and by reading other related policies and/or correspondence.
  • Make home visits as necessary.
  • Operate a motor vehicle as needed to perform the essential functions.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend workshops, meetings and seminars.
  • May assist in training new employees.
  • Perform other related Essential and Non-Essential functions as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Systems:

  • Ability to operate computers for data input and retrieval; proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and web browsers (Internet Explorer and Google Chrome), knowledge of CRIS-E, OIES, SACWIS, ODAPS, OWCMS, SETS, CFIS, MUNIS, MITS, BUY-IN, eGateway, eQuil, CCIDS, OCLQS, Time Force, Agency’s Digital Imaging systems and other systems as required by program area responsibility.

Equipment:

  • Incumbent operates equipment such as, but not limited to, the following: personal computer, printer, I-Pad, calculator, multi-functional copier, fax machine and shredder.

DIFFICULTY OF WORK

  • Work consists of varied, non-standardized tasks requiring the knowledge of established policies, rules, procedures, and laws.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Supervisor provides general guidance allowing for the planning of procedures and methods to attain objectives. Errors in work are detected within the office in which they occur, possibly affecting the work of others, and requiring expenditure of time to correct and could result in a client receiving incorrect assistance.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS

  • Incumbent has contacts with co-workers, other County employees, and with the general public. The purpose of these contacts is to coordinate departmental efforts internally and with other County departments and outside entities to help determine clients’ eligibility for assistance.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Requirements:

  • Incumbent performs sedentary work that may require lifting up to fifteen (15) pounds occasionally. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Physical Activity:

  • Incumbent performs the following physical activities: talking, hearing, driving, sitting and repetitive motions.

Visual Activity:

  • Incumbent performs work where the seeing job is close to the eyes.
