JOB DESCRIPTION Middle School In-School Suspension
Position Code: Department: Polk County Middle School FLSA: Exempt Reports to: Principal Supervises: N/A Job Summary: To supervise students assigned to ISS. Maintain records and communicate with teachers and administrators in accordance with the essential function listed below. Essential Functions: 1. Receive and make sure student assignments are completed and returned daily to teachers. 2. Implement an effective instructional program by working one-on-one with students to assist with assignments. 3. Implement intervention strategies with at-risk students. 4. Identify and accommodate students with special learning or social needs. 5. Supervise students assigned to ISS. 6. Establish disciplinary procedures for students while they are in ISS. 7. Assist teachers and administrators in the identification of students with behavioral challenges. 8. Maintain an accurate database of student discipline problems and actions taken. 9. Complete all required paperwork for each ISS student.

10. Handle student files and information in accordance with applicable rules, laws and regulations. 11. Communicate and exchange information with teachers regarding student behavior and classwork assigned while attending ISS. 12. Maintain a positive and professional tone of voice when speaking with other staff members and parents. 13. Maintain a serious and respectful tone of voice when dealing with students. 14. Treat all students fairly. 15. Serve as a positive role model in the school and in the community. 16. Keep the ISS classroom neat, clean and comfortable. 17. Maintain a safe and orderly room arrangement for enhanced supervision of students. 18. Assist with supervision as assigned/requested. 19. Participate in appropriate staff development activities. 20. Develop and complete a yearly Individual Growth Plan. 21. Demonstrate appropriate technological skills. Other Functions: 1. Other duties as assigned by the principal. Terms of Employment: 10 months – Teacher Assistant Salary Scale Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board of Education policy, North Carolina statutes, and goals established by the Principal. Environmental Factors: This position requires sitting for an extended time.
