This position exists to perform semi-skilled manual work in maintenance and construction activities and services.
Constantly assists journeyman or other maintenance and construction technicians or specialists in performing duties related to the construction, maintenance or repair of buildings, structures, and their equipment. Constantly keeps daily records and logs of work performed. Frequently operates trucks and other light equipment. The ability to operate and communicate on a two-way radio. Occasionally utilizes tools and equipment in construction and maintenance activities. Occasionally performs cleaning of equipment and facilities, and custodial duties.
Must be able to perform physical tasks as set forth in the Physical Environment section of this document.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment. Ability to perform work involving physical strength and endurance. Ability to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions. Ability and willingness to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and supervisors. Ability to keep daily records and logs. One year of experience in maintenance work is preferred. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Graduation from high school, completion of GED, or trade school. Must have a valid driver's license appropriate to the vehicles assigned to the trade and be qualified to drive a School Board vehicle.
Requires standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public. Requires the use of alternative communication systems such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires travel to school locations and work sites within the district.
Requires standing for the majority of the day, and the ability to frequently lift, carry, move and/or position objects weighing up to 80 pounds. May infrequently be required to lift more than 80 pounds with assistance as needed. Requires working both indoors and outdoors. Requires the proper use of personal protective devices and equipment as assigned.
