POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary roles and responsibilities for this position is performs all activities related to prepping, pouring, placing, and finishing concrete that include erecting and setting forms for concrete structures and site work that align with specifications of the project drawings.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Complete project assignments within designated timeframes.
  • Build and construct accurate forms that align with plan requirements.
  • Practice safety daily and follow all regulatory requirements.

DAILY OVERSIGHT AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Construct forms for specific precast concrete panels to align with specifications and requirements outlined.
  • Prepare layout of concrete by setting forms that are level and to grade.
  • Read site plans and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions, and installation process.
  • Ability to set forms that withstand pressure of concrete and provide reinforcement with stakes.
  • Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level, if necessary.
  • Must be able to accurately cut materials with hand and power tools, assemble and nail, cut and shape items.
  • Assist other workers with various labor-based tasks.
  • Other assigned duties as directed by the Superintendent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION 

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2-5 years of concrete form settings and construction required.
  • Basic to intermediate math skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret procedures and specifications.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings.
  • Working knowledge of all hand tools and how to operate each efficiently.
  • Maintain a precise standard of accuracy.
  • Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and forms of lines, figures, and objects as well as be able to look at flat drawings or pictures and understand how to apply to existing project.
  • Must be able to follow directions and ask questions when uncertainty in understanding exists.
  • Effective problem solving skills.
  • Build positive working relationships with crew and others.
  • Follow and maintain compliance with all safety, OSHA and FRA regulatory requirements and procedures.
  • Must be dependable and on time.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Safety protocols are extremely important to follow.
  • Follow all safety training and procedures displaying clear understanding through demonstration of safe work practices.
  • Refer to and comply with instructions, requests, orders, and information posted within bulletins, memorandums, rules and regulatory guidance/manuals.
  • Must be able to complete and pass requirements for background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to obtain eRailSafe badge approval required.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

Position reports to the Concrete Superintendent and is expected to operate under moderate supervisory involvement, depending on the task and the incumbent’s knowledge and ability to complete the task. All other staff remain available for information, advice, guidance, or assistance if needed and may provide training, coaching, and feedback as appropriate. This position supervises up to 0 employees depending on managerial needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The Laborer will frequently stand, walk, climb, and move throughout the workday, use their hands, repeat the same movements, and bend or twist their body while handling products and conducting work. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. Frequently move objects up to 65 lbs. Exposed to loud noise with possible exposure to live tracks and trains as well as high voltage areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The physical environment requires the employee to work outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. This position works in a very manual work environment with frequent e outdoor facilities and spends between 6-8 hours within a dumpster truck.
