PMC is Hiring a PMC: Senior Accountant, Real Estate Construction Near New York, NY

This role can be based in NYC or Los Angeles and will report to the Accounting Manager. The Senior Accountant, Real Estate Construction will support the Accounting team for maintaining the books and records of the Penske Media Real Estate (PMR) island development project. PMR has acquired an island in the Southern Exumas and has initiated the development of a new community, including plans anticipated for residential lots, a marina, golf course, airport, and other amenities. You will assist with financial reporting, technical accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, variance reporting, and other ad hoc requests for this new business. The ideal candidate must possess a goal-oriented approach and a dynamic personality as this position interacts with teams across the organization.​

Typical tasks may include (but are not limited to):

  • Assist in the setup and configuration of relevant project categories to track budget vs actual costs.
  • Review general contractor statements and invoices to ensure proper coding.
  • Participate in the design, testing, and implementation of the project accounting module.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, including the capitalization of eligible costs, and recognition of lot sales.
  • Analyze monthly P&L variances and provide meaningful reporting to management on an ongoing basis.
  • Prepare audit documentation and key US GAAP disclosures as requested.
  • Assist with accounting research and other ad hoc project transactions.
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements.
  • Establish and document policies, procedures, and best practices across the department. 
  • Perform special projects and any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years relevant accounting and/or audit experience in real estate construction businesses
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA and/or Public Accounting experience is a plus
  • Fundamental knowledge of US GAAP particularly real estate construction, sale of land or property and leasing
  • Previous experience with ERP systems (NetSuite) is a plus
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adhere and meet internal and external deadlines

Typical wage range: $80k - $90k annual discretionary bonus

Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits. PMC is committed to the health and wellness of our employees.
