Plotly is Hiring a Remote Product Designer

Plotly builds tools that help data scientists tell stories and generate data visualizations. Our tooling’s capabilities for generating useful and beautiful ways to look at data is key to our success. This will become increasingly important as we build new no-code products and as AI makes code generation easier and easier. Design will be a key differentiating factor for Plotly’s success.

We are looking for an experienced Product Designer who can help give design more influence and emphasis at Plotly. You will work closely with product managers and engineers during the entire product lifecycle - from discover and ideation to development and iteration. You will be responsible for a wide variety of design deliverables. This might require building wireframes one day, then high-fidelity prototypes the next, then writing UI/UX guidelines after that.

The technologies you will be working with include but may not be limited to:

  • Figma
  • Confluence (reading, developing, and iterating on product proposals)
  • Slack (company communication)
  • Github (supporting development)
  • Zendesk (reading & researching support tickets from customers)
  • Google suite (email, calendar, docs, video meetings)
  • … and you should be comfortable adapting to other tools as our needs evolve

Core job responsibilities:

  • Craft user-centric, intuitive, and visually appealing experiences for Plotly's suite of data visualization and analytics products.
  • Design and deliver innovative and user-centric experiences and required design artifacts.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand business objectives and translate them into elegant design solutions.
  • Contribute to and maintain design systems, ensuring consistency and scalability across different products and platforms.
  • Conduct user research and utilize data-driven insights to inform and validate design decisions, ensuring a deep understanding of user needs and behaviors.
  • Act as a key advocate for user experience, ensuring that design solutions align with industry best practices and deliver an exceptional user journey.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with other designers to fuel creativity and continuous improvement.
  • You will think through ideas by making stuff. In other words, you don’t stay in your head nor do you just talk about designs. You help conversations happen by designing UI and producing diagrams to clarify concepts.

Job requirements:

  • 4 years of experience in Product Design
  • Can balance UX and UI design and can produce work that shows excellence in both
  • A portfolio of your best work that demonstrates your Product Design skills
  • Some experience designing transitions and animations for Product UX
  • Excellent communication skills in all forms: visual, verbal, written
  • Expert-level Figma skills
  • The ability to maintain well-above-average focus when in meetings or doing deep work
  • A hunger for feedback - because you know that it’s key to producing your best work

Assets:

  • Experience in Data Science, Data Analysis, or Data Visualizations (having all three would be amazing)
  • Experience in Python and Notebooks
  • Some experience with IDE/development tools
  • Experience producing UI animations/transitions

Don’t meet all the requirements, but you feel you would be a great fit to our plot-legion? Don’t hesitate to apply!
