JOB DESCRIPTION

Certified Medication Aide (CMA)
Detailed analysis of the position of Certified Medication Aide has been carefully carried out by Administration in order to comply with the provisions and intent of the Americans with Disabilities Act in a manner that is objective and non-discriminatory to people with disabilities. The analysis accurately identifies and separates essential functions of the job of Certified Medication Aide. Included in this process is the gathering of information from employees holding this position and then compiling the data, evaluating it, and drawing pertinent employment conclusions that encourage and enhance opportunities for people with disabilities at The Pleasant View Home, Inc.
The workplace at The Pleasant View Home will be made readily accessible to and usable by people with disabilities without causing undue hardship to the facility. Supervision:
The Certified Medication Aide must report to the Director of Nursing/Charge Nurse or other person assigned to them at the start of each shift, before leaving the immediate unit, whether on break or for another purpose, and are accountable for designating another employee to monitor assigned duties and/or residents care during the time of absence. The Certified Medication Aide will report to the Director of Nursing/Charge Nurse or other person assigned to them immediately when there is any change in a resident’s condition, in addition to reporting any pertinent information concerning the resident that would be helpful in planning that resident’s care.
Qualifications:
Must have a certificate of completion of the state-approved course in Medication Administration or be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Must have a current Medication Aide Permit or Certification valid in the State of Kansas and be in good standing.
The preferred minimum educational background for CMA is a high school education coupled with college courses.
Recommendations for Training, Skills and Experience:
The Certified Medication Aide will have completed the training required by the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA), plus the state approved training for qualifications for Medication Aide.
The facility prefers Certified Medication Aide to have six (6) months experience working in a nursing home, hospital, home health agency, or other health care facility.
The Certified Medication Aide will meet the minimum age requirements for the State of Kansas..

Because of fluctuations in work load demands, and because care-giving tasks often overlap, frequency ranges and percentages vary by assignment, day of week, day, evening, etc. However, because of the nature of the position, low frequency, percentage or duration of time spent on a particular task may not indicate lack of importance.

Marginally Essential Functions

Physical Strength Required:
This facility has determined that an applicant or employee is qualified for the position of Certified Medication Aide when that person can perform the essential physical tasks of lifting, turning, moving, positioning and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc., with or without reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of himself /herself or others, including residents, co-worker, and others. The minimum of pounds determined to be appropriate for Certified Medication Aide to lift with or without reasonable accommodations is 40.
Communication:
As an essential function of the job, Certified Medication Aide is regularly called on to effectively report
Emergencies such as, resident condition changes, as well as accidents and incidents, complaints and grievances by residents and their families, etc. It is determined that Certified Medication Aide must have the ability to communicate with others, with or without reasonable accommodation and not pose a direct threat to safety or health of self or others.
Environmental Conditions:
Except where appropriate and conducive to accomplishing the goals and objectives of a particular task, Certified Medication Aide will work in a well-lighted area that is ventilated and as physically and physiologically innocuous as possible under the conditions which exist at a particular time. Because the essential functions of the job of Certified Mediation Aide may sometimes require caring for residents, bodily functions and may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, odors, hazardous chemicals, and other situations associated with health care, including but not limited to exposure of AIDS, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses involving Risk Classification Categories 1, 2, and 3, ** environmental conditions will fluctuate. To be qualified for the position of Certified Medication Aide applicants and employees will have the ability to work in the environment conducive to caring for residents, with or without reasonable accommodations and without posing a direct threat to self or others.
Attire:
The Certified Medication Aide will follow the dress code of the facility, which includes neat, clean, odor-free grooming and dress, as specified in the personnel handbook. Persons requesting an exception will be reasonably accommodated as appropriate.
Summary of Occupational Exposures:
The employee must avoid exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases and air contaminants by following the procedures for infection prevention and exposure control.
