JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: As set by state certification standards

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: Leading students toward fulfilling their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  3. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  4. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and technology, consistent with the physical limitation of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  6. Strives to implement by instruction and action the current state/national instructional standards and district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
  7. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, substitutes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  8. Evaluates student progress and provides formative feedback regularly.
  9. Diagnoses the needs of and provides instructional programs for exceptional children and seeks the assistance of specialists, as needed.
  10.  Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  11.  Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  12.  Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  13.  Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  14.  Attends and participates in parent-teacher conferences when applicable. 
  15.  Communicates and cooperates with other members of the staff, including their Professional Learning Community, in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  16.  Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  17.  Accepts the responsibility of serving on district-wide curricular study committees, as assigned.
  18.  Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  19.  Establishes and maintains cooperative working relations with other staff members.
  20.  Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for student teacher(s), teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s), where applicable.
  21.  Provides for their own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
  22.  Renews their teaching license regularly. 
  23.  Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with the community.
  24.  Carries out routine duties promptly and accurately.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year assigned according to the Master Contract.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium Work - lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Stooping and kneeling occasionally. Reaching, talking, and hearing frequently. Must be able to remain mobile throughout the work day. Works in standard office and school building environments.
