Pleasant Hope R-6 School District is Hiring a High School (Grades 9-12) SPED Teacher Near Pleasant Hope, MO

The Pleasant Hope R-VI School District is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the High School (Grades 9-12) special education classroom for the 2024-2025 school year. The Pleasant Hope School District has approximately 753 students and 121 staff members. Pleasant Hope offers a 4-day school week (Tuesday-Friday), competitive salary, full health benefits, and a family-like working atmosphere. The successful candidate will have a valid Missouri Special Education teaching certificate, effective communication skills, organization, attention to detail, a desire to work collaboratively as a member of a Professional Learning Community, and collaboration to meet the needs of families. The candidate needs to possess knowledge, experience and expertise in instruction of students with disabilities, as well as, demonstrate competency and compliance in the special education process. Experience teaching special education students in small group settings focusing on emotional behavioral supports and spectrum disorders is preferred; however, experience is preferred but not required. Additionally, the candidate should have experience implementing behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and reinforcing learning concepts. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience based upon the district’s salary schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Education: Bachelor of Science in Special Education 
  2. Certification: Valid certificate and appropriate approvals 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: 

Reports to: Director of Special Education 

Supervises: Special Education Aide 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: School term, salaried 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times
designated.

2. Plans and implements a program of study that as much as possible, meets
the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.

3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and
appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.

4. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation
upon request of immediate supervisor.

5. Encourages students to maintain standards of classroom behavior.

6. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals
and in harmony with those goals establishes and communicates clear objectives to students for all lessons and units.

7. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media,
consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

8. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of
education and instructional goals and objectives.

9. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides
progress reports as required.

10. Evaluates the learning problems of students on a regular basis, seeking the
assistance of district specialists as needed and/or required.

11. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students
equipment, materials and facilities.

12. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy
and administrative regulation.

13. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing
student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and appropriate manner.

14. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-
related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

15. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or
volunteer(s) where applicable.

16. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence

17. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as needed.
18. Supervises on the playground, in the halls and cafeteria as scheduled by the
administrator.

19. Works to promote a positive school-community relationship.
20. Reports incidents of suspected child abuse to Building Principal.

21. Attends to their professional development.

22. Maintains an environment that enables students to have positive self-
esteem.

23. Obeys all rules and policies established by the Board of Education and
Administration.

24. Upon gaining consent, perform academic testing for students referred by
parents and teachers.

25. Participate in staffing and develop an Individual Educational Plan to meet the
needs of each student.

26. Implement special education services as documented on each child’s IEP.

27. Discuss progress with parents as needed during the school year.

28. Participates in preschool and kindergarten screening, if needed.

29. Consults with classroom teachers concerning interventions and progress.

30. Evaluate academic progress and make recommendations at annual review.

31. Coordinate with teachers a schedule for Inclusion or Resource students.

32. Attend in-service training provided by the district.

33. Provides in-service training for staff members as appropriate.

34. Should be in sufficient health to perform the essential functions of the job.

35. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Administrator.
