Description

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. (Plaza) is a comprehensive early childhood education program with a focus on school readiness for children zero to five years of age. Developmentally appropriate services are provided for children from low-income families, zero to five years of age. Plaza de la Raza currently serves approximately 700 children and their families.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Early Head Start Teacher position is under general direction, this position facilitates safe and healthy learning environments and activities for young children under three (3) years of age. Plans and implements developmentally appropriate group and individualized activities and experiences to promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth and development. Provides activities and experiences to develop school readiness skills aligned with children’s age and stage of development. For parents to increase their Organizes activities, monitors individual student progress, conducts student observations, completes daily education and attendance records, conducts parent teacher conferences, and provides guidance to parents to increase their knowledge, understanding of, skills and experience in their child’s growth and development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education

Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accreditation association recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and must possess a California Child Development Teacher Permit or higher, Must have completed minimally 3 semester units (4.5 quarter) with a “C” or better in early childhood with a focus on Infant and Toddler development with a total of six units within the first year of employment.

B. Experience

At least one year’s experience (preferred) in a classroom or group setting with young children.

C. Physical Demands

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met, or are encountered, by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee may frequently lift and/or move a minimum of 25 pounds up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

D. Medical Examination

Prior to first day of employment, employees must submit an initial health screening, tuberculin (TB) skin test or chest x-ray clearance, immunization records for measles, pertussis (whooping cough), influenza and Covid-19.

E. Fingerprint Clearances

All potential employees will be subject to obtain fingerprint clearances from the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Child Abuse Index, Megan’s Law and System for Award Management prior to starting work. 

F. Other Special Requirement

Must have the use of an automobile with adequate insurance coverage and a validCalifornia driver’s license or have available private transportation.
