Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

FORKLIFT/MATERIAL HANDLER

Reports to: Manufacturing Supervisor

Prepared By: Human Resources

FLSA Status: Hourly

SUMMARY:

Safely and efficiently loads, transports, unloads and moves raw materials, finished goods and work in process to designated locations and/or work centers. Organizes and utilizes available space to create material flow between designated locations and work centers. Observes plant safety rules including safe forklift operations as mandated by OSHA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Loads, unloads, and moves powders or molds within or near plant, yard or work centers

2. Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand

3. Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved

4. Completes daily forklift inspection sheet

5. Open, inspects, and delivers all incoming materials to appropriate locations

6. Cleans work area and equipment at the end of shift

7. Light and Heavy materials to be moved and stored.

8. Counts, weighs or measures incoming or outgoing items to compare identifying information and variety against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records

9. Examines products and/or materials for damage or shortages

10. Operates material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies to move stock or reorganize storage.

11. All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), preferred.
Ability to successfully pass the OSHA Forklift Certification
Prefer three to six months of experience, without incident

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read, speak and write English

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or verbal form
Ability to read and interpret basic documents, safety rules and other correspondence.
Ability to count and measure equipment

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using basic math skills.
Ability to distinguish colors

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT:

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the attendance policy stated in the company’s employee handbook. Must be available and willing to work overtime hours as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
