Plateau Land & Wildlife is looking for a seasonal bird surveyor for the Central Texas Region. Counties where surveys may take place within this region include primarily Williamson, Burnet, Llano, Milam, Bell, Lampasas, San Saba, Mills, McLennan, Coryell, Hamilton and Bosque counties, as well as adjacent areas. This is a seasonal position with surveys being conducted during the breeding season (March 15 through the end of July). A field test in bird identification may be required before hiring if references cannot prove competency or experience.
Duties:
* Conducting Avain point counts across central and north-central Texas
* Documenting presence of all bird species by sight and sound
* Traveling to private properties often in remote areas on dirt roads to conduct surveys
Other Considerations:
* This is a field position includes hiking on rural property between 5 and 20 acres, in various weather conditions
* Surveys run from break of dawn to 11am
Job requirements
* Experience in bird identification by sight and sound, preferably of resident and migratory birds found in central Texas
* Must be good with data collection, data management and data entry in a timely manner
* Must follow established protocols
* Ability to navigate using aerial photography, GIS and various maps
* Valid drivers license
* Clean driving record
* suitable binoculars
* ability to work in a flexible schedule
Additional Qualifications
* B.S. in wildlife biology or related field
* Experience working with wildlife field work
* Experience with bird identification and surveying, especially bird ID by sound
