PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF THE ST. LOUIS REGION AND SOUTHWEST MISSOURI

POSITION TITLE: Education Department Practicum Student

STATUS: Unpaid

REPORTS TO: Sexual Health Training Coordinator & Task Supervisors

POSITION SUMMARY

The Education Department Practicum Student will assist in service preparation and implementation within the education department. This position assists with the development and implementation of educational programming for community partners and training for sexual health professionals. The practicum student will also be responsible for participating in community outreach; providing support to the Education Department and Sunnen Family Library; and furthering the integration and appreciation of diversity and inclusion in and for the department. Must attend all required training and meetings throughout the course of the practicum. Must be able to communicate effectively with various populations. 

PRIMARY DUTIES PERFORMED

Support Sexual Health Training Coordinator in the preparation and facilitation of professional development trainings, including antiracist training program 

Support and assist PPSLRSWMO education staff in providing comprehensive sex education programs to community groups

Data collection and evaluation of classes and programs

Assist in material preparation and resource compilation for classes, trainings and programs

Assist the Education Department in the following:

Reviewing and critiquing films, curricula, books, literature and sexual health/sexuality education materials for purchase.

Maintaining brochures/pamphlets/sex education box supply.

Provide assistance as needed to Sunnen library users.

QUALIFICATIONS

General:

Candidates for practicum positions must be enrolled in a graduate program in social work, public health, public policy, or related field.

Must be available: Tuesday and Wednesday Afternoons/Evenings Min. 10 hrs/week

Must adhere to Telecommuting Policy when working remotely

Must be flexible; afternoon, evening and weekend hours are required.

Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences, such as Public Health, Social Work, or Health Education & Promotion required

Education/training on racial equity, reproductive justice, disability justice, and LGBTQIA identities

Racial justice based planning, organizing, and/or volunteer work

Organizing and assessing program effectiveness

Training and demonstrated skills in the following:

Sexual Health education and public speaking.

Organizational skills, including project management and tracking.

Microsoft office suite, Google Workspace, Data tracking and reporting websites

Discretion and ethical judgment in all aspects of work.

Dedication to health equity, racial equity, and LGBTQIA equity

Professional experience, including positive and effective collaboration with individuals and communities from diverse backgrounds.

Clear communication with team, partners, & contracted orgs over multiple communication platforms

Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of:

Community advocacy with impacted groups

Reproductive justice, racial equity, LGBTQIA inclusion, sexual health and freedom
