Planned Parenthood of Northern, Central and Southern New Jersey, Inc. (PPNCSNJ) provides comprehensive reproductive and sexual health care, abortion services, education and information to women, men and teens at 17 health centers throughout 18 counties in New Jersey.

JOB SUMMARY

The Public Affairs Manager is responsible for building grassroots influence for the implementation of the agency’s advocacy campaigns and will serve as an ambassador with volunteers, coalition partners, and key community contacts. This position is responsible for cultivating and stewarding relationships with volunteers, a wide range of coalition partners, and legislators to advance the mission of Planned Parenthood. This position requires frequent travel across the state and a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Public Affairs Manager performs a wide range of duties, including, but not limited to the following:

1.Represents Planned Parenthood’s mission and policy positions when speaking to external audiences. This is a forward-facing role that requires frequent public speaking.

2.Organizing program lead who recruits, trains, supports, and recognizes public affairs volunteers to further the agency's work. Including, but not limited to: interviewing potential volunteers and providing training to encourage the volunteer's success; tracking volunteers’ involvement, and impact; and working with other departments to ensure volunteer engagement needs are met.

3.Leads and designs public affairs volunteer program to ensure that meaningful and diverse engagement is available where needed to meet the agency’s goals and creates opportunities for innovation and leadership to emerge including bringing volunteers along the path to donate and lead grassroots advocacy efforts.

4.Leads our constituency organizing which includes youth organizing, BIPOC and health center advocacy programs, and uses a reproductive justice lens to inform decision-making.

5.Engages in electoral work as assigned, including but not limited to: recruiting volunteers to support endorsed candidates, attending rallies, and engaging with electoral campaign staff.

6.Provides direction to our Planned Parenthood community partnerships and coalition work, grassroots organizing programs including trainings, leadership development, membership recruitment, and engaging volunteers in grassroots and legislative organizing and civic participation on targeted campaigns.

7.Maintains guest lists, gathers, creates collateral materials, and other duties as assigned for Public Affairs events and programs.

8.Host weekly phone banks to engage volunteers and supporters. Trains, recruits and meets with volunteers to help meet goals.

9.Working in collaboration with the Field Director, Implements strategy; drafts and executes campaign plans; and manages deliverables needed to achieve advocacy efforts across the state.

10.Initiates and develops a broad range of important coalition, grassroots, and grasstops contacts that directly affect the reputation and the agency or its programs, responding to critical and controversial issues and actively seeks new contacts to expand our sphere of influence.

11.Leads community organizing activities such as citizen lobbying, tabling, canvassing, community presentations on a monthly basis.

12.Organizes community events and all related logistics, outreach, and recruitment.

13.Ensures diversity in volunteer and coalition base and upholds the agency’s values around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

14.Is responsible for data integrity, improvement, and maintaining updated records in EveryAction/VAN, and all other field/electoral databases.

15.Assists with marketing efforts for grassroots field campaigns, donor relations projects, and health center services.

16.Provides timely reporting to supervisor, department Executive Director, PPFA, and other stakeholders as requested.

17.Develops timelines and budgets for assigned programs and ensure that tasks are completed on time and within budget.

18.Defines, tracks, and measures the progress of initiatives against goals.

19.Ensure compliance with conditions of 501C3, 501C4 and PAC guidelines for approved activities.

20.Participates in the Affiliate’s efforts related to revenue cycle, which include but are not limited to: Achieving goals for productivity; meeting or exceeding revenue targets; and expense management as budgeted.

21.Demonstrates commitment to established Workplace Values: Trustworthy; Effective Communication; Respectful; Supportive; Collaborative; Excellence. 22.Travels throughout the state to help support the agency’s campaign goals and priorities.

23.Performs other duties as assigned in support of mission and as required to ensure delivery of consistently high-quality services.

10.Creation and coordination of volunteer and field programs.

11.Comfortable speaking to small and large audiences as an agency representative.

12.Ability to convey agency messages to external audiences.

13.Able to demonstrate behaviors that represent the Affiliate’s Workplace Values.

14.Able to maintain and demonstrate strict confidentiality of all information.

15.Entrepreneurial spirit, intellectual curiosity, high energy, positive attitude, and diplomatic.

16.Commitment to reflect quality assurance and risk management in daily tasks.

17.Has computer skills and ability to learn/operate software programs and platforms such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Canva.

18.Familiarity with social media and websites is preferred, but not required. Experience with 501C4 organizations is preferred, but not required.

19.Maintains professional appearance and demonstrates a professional attitude at all times.

20.Ability to work flexible schedules and maintain punctual attendance.

21.Able to work under pressure, remain calm, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

22.Ability to relate to diverse communities.

23.Ability to lead teams and desire to work as part of an interdependent team.

24.Ability to remain open and non-judgmental towards colleagues and customers.
