Description

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking mission-minded Associates to join us as a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Community Health Education Specialist providing programming in our Cleveland service area. 

SUMMARY

Creates, markets, implements, and evaluates community education and outreach programs to groups and individuals in classroom, virtual / distance learning, and community settings on a variety of topics related to sexual and other health topics. Must have a demonstrated ability to establish networking relationships in the community. Job requires an ability and willingness to provide education through a variety of formats including, but not limited to, in-person, live virtual platforms, and recorded content. Commitment to quality healthcare and excellence in customer service is essential.

Experience or training in the areas of health, human sexuality, adolescent development, and learning theory preferred. Experience working with groups and individuals, specifically with youth and diverse populations, is required. Experience with content development, public speaking and implementing, coordinating, and evaluating programs preferred. Ability to utilize computer skills/programs to deliver health education content is expected. Self-motivation, self-direction, teamwork, and organizational skills required.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Directly recruits education clients, patients, and promotes PPGOH services in affiliate service area.
  • Develops and presents information on sexual health and other health topics and promotes protective factors among adolescents and adults in school, social service, and community settings.
  • Writes and adapts lesson plans and curricula that are inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally aware and grounded in tenets of the racial and reproductive justice movements.
  • Plans, markets, and implements department initiatives that respond to the cultural and linguistic characteristics of persons living in the PPGOH service area.
  • Establishes and stewards relationships with organizations such as businesses, schools, churches, and community service agencies to establish referral relationships, partnerships, and outreach activities.
  • Participates in developing, marketing, implementing, and evaluating designated education programs, workshops, and conferences.
  • Represents PPGOH at community meetings and coalitions as assigned.
  • Provides staff in-service training as needed.
  • Utilizes PPGOH’s database and other client tracking systems to maintain accurate records of education and outreach activities.
  • Attends regular departmental meetings and assists with department maintenance and other duties as assigned.
  • Conducts health screening/tests and processes samples for health center review and follow-up.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May occasionally require recruitment and coordination of volunteers for departmental activities

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Service, Community Health, Communication, or related field
  • Experience with program delivery in the areas of health education, human services, community organizing or related filed required
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Presentation and training skills with diverse populations required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • May occasionally require negotiation skills and use of discretion
  • Creativity, problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal skills, flexibility, and independent judgment
  • Commitment to the ethos, values, and service standards of Planned Parenthood and ability to communicate these to associates, volunteers, prospective job applicants, and others in the community
