Pittsburg Tank & Tower Group is Hiring an EHS Specialist Near Henderson, KY

Job Summary:
The EHS Specialist will contribute to a “Safety First” culture that is centered around engaging the workforce in a collaborative, team environment. They will follow the general health, safety and environmental policies and procedures for the company, while implementing initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses and exposure to long-term health hazards. The EHS Specialist creates and enforces programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, the proper use of protective equipment, and hazardous materials management.
Job Duties:
  • Inspects and evaluates work conditions and environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations
  • Conducts site safety and health audits as assigned
  • Conducts safety training and education programs that demonstrates the use of safety equipment and proper safety procedures
  • Investigates accidents / incidents to identify root causes and drive corrective actions to prevent future issues
  • Implements OHS policies and programs
  • Advises employees on various safety-related topics
  • Enforces preventative measures
  • Examines plans for new and current buildings and machines
  • Provides new employee health and safety orientations and develops materials for these presentations.
  • Maintains and updates emergency response plans or procedures
  • Collects samples of hazardous materials or arranges for sample collection
  • Uses relevant information and individual judgement to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards
  • Monitors and reviews information from materials, events, or the surrounding environment, to detect or assess potential problems
  • Keeps up-to-date technically and applies new knowledge to job
  • Stays current on new state and federal health and safety regulations
  • Documents and records information
  • Consults with manager on implementation of new safety procedures
  • Solves problems by analyzing information
  • Writes various reports including details on inspection process
  • Orders safety gear and supplies for workplace
  • Travel to various worksites across the country

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • OSHA 500
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Current training in First Aid, CPR, and AED
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Good Communication skills
  • Tower knowledge a plus, though not required
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and ability to learn new software
Work Environment
Typical work setting will vary between offices, industrial plants, and outdoors. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and various chemicals consistent with a fabrication environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to changing weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel expectations will be up to 30% of the time from regional to some overnights.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must wear required Personal Protective Equipment and may handle heavy equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to climb and work at heights. Employee must maintain an active driver license in good standing.
