WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Behavioral Health Clinician III provides quality counseling, case management, education and community support services to clients with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and/or co-occurring disorders using evidence-based and promising practices.

This position does not supervise employees but provides clinical supervision.

The below requirements differentiate this position from Behavioral Health Clinician II:

  • Master’s Degree with curriculum related to counseling and psychology.
  • Mental health associate’s license (i.e., LMHCA, LMFTA, LSWAA, LSWAIC) or be a Mental Health Professional and an Agency Affiliated Counselor

PRIMARY/ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Services

  • Provides evidence-based and research-supported mental health and psychosocial interventions through problem-solving, case management, and group facilitation in accordance with program policy and the clients’ Individual Service Plan
  • Diagnoses mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders in accordance with the most recently published Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (e.g., DSM-5) and ASAM requirements.
  • Collaborates with other Pioneer behavioral healthcare providers and community partners based upon the clients’ Individual Service Plan
  • Provides behavioral health services based upon identified treatment needs specified in the clients’ Individual Service Plan and in accordance with employee’s education, training and certification.
  • Complies with documentation and filing requirements according to applicable WACs, agency, and funder policies.
  • Recognizes, respects, and maintains professional boundaries with clients.
  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of community resources.
  • Assists first responders as needed (i.e., police and medical personnel)

Communication and Teamwork

  • Must be available to perform the essential functions of this job whenever scheduled to work.
  • Attends shift/staff meetings and actively participates in planning, coordination and communication of all types, which will contribute to the delivery of quality professional services.
  • Utilizes critical thinking and judgment to identify the most professional therapeutic reaction or intervention in client care.
  • Documents observations in daily notes in accordance with program policy
  • Promotes and models teamwork and collaboration with coworkers.
  • Ensures client and employee safety by maintaining, cleaning, and disposing of equipment and supplies according to policy and procedures.

Quality Assurance

  • Maintains quality of care consistent with or exceeding standards set by federal, state, local, internal, and contract requirements.
  • Assists in the development of treatment methodologies and educational offerings in accordance with client needs as determined by program leadership.
  • Adheres to professional and ethical standards for behavioral health services.
  • Retrieves client and program data as needed.
  • Completes peer file audits to ensure accuracy and quality of documentation and services.

Clinical Training and Development

  • Actively participates in agency supervision toward obtaining and maintaining licensure, in support of evidence-based practices, and in accordance with applicable WAC and RCW requirements.
  • Obtains additional training required by applicable WACs and in accordance with annual training plan.
  • For positions in 24-hour locations, obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Food Handler's permit within one week of hire.
  • For positions in 24-hour locations, becomes CPR & First Aid certified within 90 days of hire (or as soon as possible) and maintains throughout employment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of electronic records management
  • Ability to de-escalate situations.
  • Ability to follow confidentiality rules and agency policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to work with residents who have both substance use and mental health disorders; ability to show compassion and professionalism with residents who may be angry, depressed, distraught, frustrated, suicidal, and/or under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
  • Willingness to work with individuals who have criminal histories and/or identified criminogenic risk factors.
  • High level of written/verbal communication, customer services skills, efficiency with independent task management and ability to show attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive, enthusiastic, and motivational counseling and evidence-based practice intervention.
  • Duties require the use of standard office furniture and equipment (i.e., desk, filing cabinet, laptop computer, printer, telephone, cellular phone, fax machine, copy machine, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Internet browser navigation

QUALIFICATIONS:REQUIRED

  • Master’s Degree in mental health, behavioral health, or related human services field with curriculum related to counseling and psychology.
  • Must possess a current mental health associate’s license (i.e., LMHCA, LMFTA, LSWAA, LSWAIC) or be a Mental Health Professional and an Agency Affiliated Counselor
    • Mental Health Professional (MHP) criteria in Washington state:
      • A psychiatrist, psychologist, psychiatric nurse, or social worker as defined in chapters 71.05 RCW and 71.34 RCW
      • A person who is licensed by the Department of Health as a Mental Health Counselor, Mental Health Counselor Associate, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Marriage and Family Therapist Associate
      • A person who is registered by the Department of Health as an Agency Affiliated Counselor who has a master’s degree or further advanced degree in counseling or one of the social sciences from an accredited college or uni­versity. In addition, at least two years of experience in direct treatment of person(s) with mental illness or emotional disturbance, such experience gained under the supervision of a mental health professional recognized by the department or attested to by the licensed behavioral health agency.
    • "Agency affiliated counselor" means a person registered under chapter 18.19.210 RCW, who is engaged in counseling and employed by an agency listed in WAC 246-810-016 or an agency recognized under WAC 246-810-017 to provide a specific counseling service or services.

PREFERRED/DESIRABLE

  • 1 year of experience in mental health, behavioral health, or another related human services field
  • SUDP/SUDPT (dually credentialed)
  • If designated by the work location, employee must have a valid driver’s license, personal auto insurance, and a driver's abstract/driving record acceptable to Pioneer’s auto insurance company. Employee must meet the requirements of Pioneer’s approved driver policy and guidelines.
