PINE CREST SCHOOL is Hiring an Upper school counselor Near Fort Lauderdale, FL

Purpose

The School Counselor provides information, support and guidance to students, parents, and teachers in an effort to promote emotional health and academic success for our students.

Our approach is student-centered; a variety of services are offered focusing on the development of coping skills, responsible behavior, and proactive interventions.

The School Counselor role at Pine Crest is a dynamic one which involves providing individualized academic counseling and supporting the social-emotional development of our students.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supports the School’s mission statement and the philosophy of the department and adheres to School policies and procedures, including but not limited to what is outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Co-leads the Advisory and Character Education Program within the Upper School making effective use of class time, resources, and teacher partnerships
  • Counsels both individual and student groups on a variety of topics including academic course work and course selection, time management, stress reduction, study skills, and making healthy decisions
  • Works collaboratively with the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) Committee; observe students in and out of classroom environments, assist with recommendations for classroom teachers and parents and coordinate the implementation of ADA accommodations within the Division;
  • Serves as Chair for the Division Student Wellness Team
  • Monitors student achievement and facilitates intervention on the students' behalf when a pattern of need emerges
  • Identifies students at-risk for academic failure and works with those students to implement a plan for improvement
  • Meets with parents to foster a collaborative approach to student achievement
  • Supports students and the School with crisis intervention
  • Assists with and participates in the development and implementation of support and prevention programs
  • Participates in parent programming, as requested by the Division Head
  • Actively seeks out opportunities for professional growth
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee

Job Qualifications

Education :

Master’s degree in Counseling, Guidance, or Social Work required

Experience and Qualifications :

Work with children is essential; 2 years’ experience in school counseling is preferred

Certifications and Licenses :

Licensure or certification in school counseling, school psychology, social work or closely related field required
