Position Title: Instructor, Surgical Technology
Department: West Campus
Starting Rate: Band 4 - $47,100 - $58,900
Closed Date: September 25, 2022 5:00 PM Arizona Time
Position Summary:
Instructors teach and work a set schedule over a twelve-month academic year that could include day, evening, night, and weekend duties. This position is a full-time surgical technology instructor that may be used in the classroom, in skills labs, simulation, and clinically. The selected candidate may be used in any teaching modality necessary to achieve the Surgical Technology Program’s goals. 
Surgical Technology Instructional Staff functions within the Surgical Technology Program within the Division of Health Professions & Biomedical Sciences and seeks to support a student-centered learning environment, focused on helping Surgical Technology students achieve their educational goals. Surgical Technology Instructors are allocated teaching responsibilities that achieve the course, the Program, the Campus, and the College outcomes. Surgical Technology Instructors are actively engaged in community outreach, curriculum development, evaluation of student learning outcomes, and contributors to the change process, driven by the College, Campus, and the Program strategic plans. Surgical Technology Instructors report directly to the Director of Surgical Technology.
Salary – Initial salary placement is based on education and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruct students and work with them on learning strategies to help them achieve academic success
Use current, active, and effective classroom management techniques
Monitor instruction delivery to ensure Student Learning Outcomes are met in the classroom, discipline/program, and College level
Evaluate and create formative and summative report on student learning and performance
Provide a formative and summative student progress report to program director and students in meeting course objectives program requirements, and program outcomes
Continually improve instruction, utilizing appropriate delivery methods; including the application of technology Evaluate and revise course outlines and course materials
Provide academic advising, participate in student success models, and other activities that communicate program excellence
Maintain competency and currency in the teaching fields, as well as in teaching strategies, subject delivery modalities, and assessment methods
Actively serve as a member of the department and discipline groups; participate in program and college governance
Participate in fostering partnerships that strengthen educational opportunities in response to community needs
Represent the department and/or campus on College-wide committees
Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students, and utilize a collegial style in all forms of communication
Engage and promote a culture of excellence both internally and externally to the program at all times
Organize and administer lab and clinical experiences for students
Pursue ongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade professional and instructional capabilities
Other duties as assigned by the Surgical Technology Program Director or designee
Job Requirements:
Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency or an Associate degree with a concentration in surgical technology from an accredited program and
Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and
Minimum of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years
Additional Information:
Must provide a current BLS Healthcare Provider certification card through the American Heart Association and
Must submit clinical eligibility items including, but not limited to, a variety of immunizations and a health physical
Preferred:
Knowledge of curriculum development and assessment of student learning outcomes.
Prior experience in teaching (part-time or full-time) which may include:
Proficient in student learning styles and have the ability to adapt and modify instruction based upon the instructional needs of the students; must have high instruction/learning standards in traditional/non-traditional formats
Knowledge of assessment instruments and interpretation practices to improve instruction to meet College, Program, and course outcomes/objectives
Knowledge of advising principles and resources available to assist students with academic and personal challenges, as well as have the ability to assist students to access such resources
Knowledge of diverse community college student populations and have the ability to address diversity in effective instructional practices and student learning; have the characteristics of inclusivity and individual respect
An appreciation and support of the College mission, the College strategic plan, the West Campus strategic plan, and the Surgical Technology Program’s mission, vision, philosophy and strategic plan
Knowledge and ability to function in the change process, further develop clinical partnerships with the local surgical technology industry, and support innovative change practices to improve the course, program, and college outcomes
Demonstrated engagement in a culture of excellence and student-focused environment, high level of integrity and civility
Knowledge of accreditation practices, systematic evaluation plans

Student learning styles: ability to adapt and modify instruction based on the instructional needs of the student
Assessment instruments and their interpretation: knowledge of appropriate and effective use of assessment information to improve instruction
Evaluation of students’ educational progress: the ability to maintain high instruction and learning standards and assess students’ academic progress in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes
Teaching in traditional and non-traditional formats; knowledge of curriculum development, course design, and delivery
Techniques for academic advising: knowledge of the resources available to students to assist them with academic and personal challenges, and the ability to help students access those resources
Competencies in multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusivity
Knowledge of diverse community college student populations and the ability to address diversity in effective instructional practice and student learning
Mission: appreciation for the Community College mission, vision, and values
Understanding and promoting a culture of excellence focused on data collection/analysis, continuous quality improvement, customer service, and regulation compliance
Contribute and support a culture of excellence including high-quality team dynamics, civility, and continuous quality improvement (personal and programmatic)
