Pima Community College is Hiring an Instructor/Lecturer Near Tucson, AZ

The Adult Education - IET (Integrated Education and Training) Instructor is responsible for the development and implementation of integrated, career-contextualized instruction in reading, writing, math and work-readiness skills to prepare adult learners for success in college and career.

IET instructors integrate workforce preparation skills, contextualize basic skills instruction to careers, and prepare learners for success in career training, which is integrated into the IET course. The IET instructor may also work as a partner in an IBEST (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training) program as part of a co-teaching team composed of an Adult Education Instructor and Career and Technical Education (CTE) faculty, who work together to ensure seamless integration of CTE and High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation content. The Instructor must be highly flexible and prepared to develop productive working relationships with faculty partners, community partners and learners. All instructors benefit from ongoing, job-embedded, collaborative professional learning which includes coaching in addition to other required training. This position may work at Adult Learning Centers and/or PCC campus locations, depending on the teaching assignment, and will include daytime and/or evening classes.

For over 50 years, Pima Community College Adult Basic Education for College and Career (ABECC) has served adult learners in Pima County with Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, and English Language Acquisition for Adults classes and services. The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends and local travel.

This is a grant-funded position and continuation is contingent upon renewed funding.

Candidates that move beyond an initial interview will be required to complete a teaching demonstration to be considered for a final interview.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver high quality career-contextualized basic skills instruction in reading, writing, math and workforce preparation for adult learners that is flexible, student-centered, standards-based, and aligned to the specific educational needs of the student cohort and is inclusive to the diverse needs and abilities of all learners
  • Use a variety of instructional methods, adjusting teaching styles to meet the needs of a diverse student population using adult learning theory/principles
  • Create a welcoming environment where students develop a sense of belonging, learn how they can be successful in our program, and can see themselves on a college or career pathway
  • Collaborate with faculty in career and technical education programs in the development of contextualized integrated basic skills instruction that aligns to the goals and objectives of the particular certificate, degree or program and to the standards of the Arizona Department of Education. Collaboratively develop and conduct relevant assessments and assignments
  • Co-teach in a classroom composed of adult learners pursuing a High School Equivalency diploma and students who have a High School diploma but can benefit from the additional integrated basic skills and workforce preparation instruction
  • Complete accurate and timely attendance records
  • Represent the Adult Education Program and the College at Conferences, State Committees, and/or various types of work groups
  • Engage in collaborative professional learning and continuing education
  • Abide by Pima Community College rules of conduct
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree and
  • One year experience teaching Adult Basic Education or related teaching experience and
  • Arizona Department of Education certification or the ability to obtain the certification within sixty days from date of hire

or

  • An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience developing career-contextualized curriculum and student-centered approaches to instruction in areas of reading, writing, math, and/or English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Experience fostering inclusion, engagement and awareness in a diverse, inclusive classroom setting
  • Knowledge of Adult Basic Education, learning theory, principles and methods
  • Experience delivering in-person, virtual and hyflex instruction
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public
  • Ability to demonstrate curiosity and humility in seeking to understand and empathize with diverse populations
  • Experience collaborating with college and community partners
  • Knowledge of Arizona Adult Education and College and Career Readiness Standards; State and National guidelines; WIOA guidance
  • Strategies and tools for career navigation and exploration
  • Using technology to support classroom instruction and other job-related duties
  • Evaluating student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessment including the GED practice tests and TABE test
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a rapidly changing environment
