Position Overview

Pillar Innovations is an Industrial Solutions and Service Company with 15 years of experience in the Energy, Mining, Manufacturing, Industrial Construction, Aggregate, and Renewables Industries.

The Corporate Headquarters are located in Grantsville, MD with several offices throughout the country.

The general role of the Department Manager - Electrical is to be responsible for the oversight and management of electrical projects, services, personnel, and administration for the Knoxville division.

The Department Manager is also responsible for supporting customer service and business growth within the Knoxville division.

The Department Manager will manage processes, personnel, and resources to provide services, products and / or deliverables that are on-time, on-budget and that meet or exceed customer expectations.

The Department Manager must possess the knowledge, experience, and ability to work with new and / or developed customers to determine business and operational needs and opportunities for Pillar Innovations and to provide continuous improvements and efficiencies for its' customers.

The Department Manager will report to the Division Manager and will work primarily out of the Knoxville location. This position requires flexibility and extended hours as needed.

What You'll Do

  • Communicate department needs such as personnel, equipment and supply needs to the Division Manager and participate in the hiring process of staff
  • Lead and actively participate in the Performance Management Programs for Electrical staff
  • Attend Division Management meetings and disseminate the information to all office personnel, as needed
  • Prepare quotes and assist in reviewing departmental quotes as required and consult Executive Management as required
  • Upon receipt of order, coordinate work orders and job numbers with the Office Administrator
  • Review and complete work in progress (WIP) reports and coordinate and review the billing processes with the Office Administrator
  • Serve as a mentor and team leader to the Electrical Department team
  • Provide and ensure training is provided to electrical personnel
  • Supervise the review of T&M (time & material) tickets, receipts, and other paperwork from the field staff and ensure accuracy
  • Train other personnel in the proper completion of paperwork and follow up to ensure compliance and timely delivery of paperwork
  • Approve / supervise the review of staff timecards and requests for time off
  • Organize and manage operations updates for the Division Manager and serve as the primary responsible party for communicating issues and changes to Division Management
  • Coordinate shared resources and labor pools as required for specific project demands
  • In conjunction with Division Management, manage acceptable inventory levels and schedule material purchases according to market needs and trends
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of office staff and oversee the supervision of the field crew and ensure that all required inspections, technical issues, material deficiencies, safety, and emergency situations are resolved in a timely and efficient manner
  • Assist in site visits and pre-job walkthroughs and analysis to identify special job needs, challenges, and ensure adequate staffing and equipment is in place to complete the project within the customers required time frame and budget
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Foremen and Executive Management
  • Identify issues and concerns from staff and ensure that a positive relationship exists between the Pillar field personnel, the customer, and Pillar Innovations Senior Management
  • Alert the Division Manager of non-routine issues and repairs that cannot be resolved in the field or that would jeopardize the operation's ability to continue
  • Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and additional work with the customer, suppliers, vendors, and Division Management
  • Conduct field audits and reviews to identify any potential issues and suggest resolution
  • Aid other management personnel as needed
  • Provide / assist with training of new / inexperienced personnel whether Pillar employees or employees of other companies on an as needed basis.

This would include coaching and encouraging Pillar personnel to demonstrate the attitude and demeanor expected from Pillar Corporation by handling concerns internally and not involving the customer

Provide weekly operations updates, to include updated project schedule and job financial reporting to the Division Manager

What You'll Bring

  • Degree or Certification and a minimum of ten (10) years of Electrical Services experience or equivalent / relevant education and experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Aptitude for facilitating and maintaining professional relationships within the department with an eye to promoting a proper work / life balance among employees
  • Master Electrician License required
  • Contractor Licenses preferred
  • Comprehensive, up to date, knowledge of the NEC (National Electrical Code)
  • Skillful in imparting information
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Industrial Electrical Services
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately
  • Practical knowledge of office procedures and customer relations
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Skill in dealing with the public in a manner which will facilitate any constructive problem solving possible
  • Proficient with personal computers and software packages including specific knowledge of Vista, Microsoft Suite, Microsoft Projects, estimating software, and CAD
  • Ability to work under and resolve stressful situations in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to work within a budget to meet deadlines
