Purpose:

Float Hot End Team Leader is responsible for managing the people, process and equipment associated with the RS1. The main objective is to develop systems to continually improve the process/product and work with his/her team to implement these systems. The Float Hot End Team Leader is responsible and accountable for managing all aspects of the operation with respect to the areas of responsibility. The Hot Utility positions (4 hourly positions) will report to the RS1 Team Leader.

Essential Functions:

• Develop systems to consistently communicate expectations and priorities to the supervisors and hourly employees on a daily basis. Maintain the control plans associated with these processes and systems. Follow up to ensure all expectations are met.
• Monitor process and operational performance and implement systems to improve performance. Utilize the 8-Step problem solving process to continually improve performance.
• Train supervisors in standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure that hourly employees are properly trained. Conduct regular audits to ensure SOP content is current and operators understand SOPs.
• Assist in the commissioning of new plant and equipment and other systems to ensure that this introduction into the production facility is handled efficiently and within minimum disruption.
• Set up systems for process capability measurement and train team members in statistical process control (SPC), in order to ensure that internal/external customer needs are met.
• Develop detailed plans to utilize the Hot Utility employees to accomplish all routine hot work activities and audit performance of this group periodically to improve efficiency.
• Interface with the TPMC to develop priorities and ensure that all maintenance work is completed for RS1 as required to meet or exceed 6F1 performance targets.
• Ensure that all activities related to the Float and are performed in a safe manner. Pro-actively address all unsafe conditions. Properly investigate all safety incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Establish and maintain a 5S system for the Hot End. Work with supervisors and hourly employees to ensure plant housekeeping meets or exceeds standards.

Qualifications Required:

• B.S. or higher Engineering Degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 4 - 6 years glass experience.
• Required to have a working knowledge of all activities in the area of glassmaking, Pilkington designed float plants, as well as technical skills necessary to maintain computer monitoring operations.
• Knowledge of Pilkington design furnace construction and maintenance requirements.
• Leadership and management skills

Qualifications Desired:

• 2 to 4 years of experience in the glass industry
• Practical experience in Float Glass Batch Plant, Furnace, Furnace PCP, Float Glass Forming and/or Annealing is desired.
