Pierpont Community & Technical College is Hiring a Program Director, Emergency Medical Services Near Clarksburg, WV

Description

The Program Director has the overall responsibility for directing the planning, organization, administration, and continuous quality improvement of the Emergency Medical Services Program. Additionally, the Program Director must ensure curriculum has continuity and that all course curriculum objectives are met. The Program Director will communicate and collaborate with the Dean for the School of Health Sciences to ensure that the EMS program is run effectively so that candidates have the opportunity to be successful.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a 15 credit hour teaching load
  • Provide instruction in the EMS courses. This includes lecturing and guiding in classroom activities of any/any/all the courses as assigned for the EMS Program
  • Coordinate lab, clinical and co-operative work experience for the EMS students.
  • Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening, weekend and classes taught on or off campus.
  • Provide student advising and assistance to EMS students.
  • Other College Responsibilities. This may include cooperating with administration in program and course development, participating on College committees, in faculty organizations and professional advisory meetings.
  • In addition, the faculty member is expected to participate in a rigorous professional improvement effort.
  • Cooperate with other College personnel including the EMS Medical Director and Dean of Health Sciences to assist students with career planning, job placement, and follow-up studies.
  • Work with appropriate College personnel to write proposals for program funds.
  • Act as a resource person for students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Thorough knowledge in the field of Emergency Medical Services at all levels of certification.
  •  Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
  •  Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
  •  Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentations.
  •  Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and written materials.
  •  Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
  •  Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
  • Ability to remain in communication with the EMS Program Medical Director, program staff and faculty on a regular basis via college sponsored email system.
  •  Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  •  Ability to work with EMS Program Director, faculty, Department Chair, Instructional Dean and other community college staff at all levels.
  •  Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Required:• Certification: The Program Director must be a currently certified paramedic.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare or education related field.
• Experience: One to Three years pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency care (Three or more years preferred).
• Completion of a minimum NAEMSE Instructor Course or other approved 40 hour methodology instructor course.
• Licenses/Certificates:
a) West Virginia Paramedic in good standing with WVOEMS.
b) Current CPR Instructor certificate from the American Heart Association.
Preferred:
a) Current ACLS Instructor certificate from the American Heart Association.
b) Current PHTLS Instructor certificate from the American Heart Association.
c) Current PALS Instructor certificate from the American Heart Association.
d) In addition to or as a minor of Bachelor’s Degree requirements, an AAS-EMS degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher learning that includes course work equivalent to the uniform associate of applied science degree in emergency medical technology as approved by the West Virginia Board of Education and offered by West Virginia’s community colleges.
e) Teaching experience in a Community College setting preferred.
