NATURE OF WORK
The successful applicant can look forward to performing advanced professional accounting work for the Pierce County Department of Emergency Management. The successful applicant's primary responsibility will be assigning work to subordinates, reviewing work product and developing policies and procedures to create efficiencies for the department. The successful applicant will work independently, receive general direction and assistance on new and complex assignments.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintaining a variety of accounts, prepare financial reports and statements in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements; maintain records of fund activities; analyzing and reconciling fund charges and direct necessary fund transfers.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and verifying a variety of accounting, statistical, and narrative reports and documents.
  • Reviewing and analyzing electronic and manual accounting systems and making recommendations for the development and modification of existing systems to improve procedures and ensure conformity to policy and accounting principles.
  • Making day-to-day decisions relative to the accounting treatment of complex financial transactions and assisting in the development and modification of accounting systems to improve procedures; proposing changes in various aspects of the accounting system.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of a designated work unit; determine work procedures; prepare work schedules and determine methods for expediting work flow; assign, review, and approve the work of subordinate staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and develop performance measures and standards.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting.
  • Two or more years of professional accounting or auditing experience.
  • Possession of Washington State Certification as a Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
  • Governmental financial accounting and reporting work experience preferred.
  • Asset accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Additional education and/or experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may be substituted for the recruiting requirements.
