Description:
JOB PURPOSE:
Oncology registered dietitian (RD) to provide nutritional consultation to cancer patients across the continuum of the cancer experience including primary prevention, cancer treatment, secondary prevention, cancer recurrence and palliative care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supports Piedmont Oncology Nutrition Program in the role of oncology dietitian.
2. Self-schedule patients by utilizing malnutrition screening tool (MST), physician/RN referrals, acuity, etc.
3. Assess patients medical history including: PMH, labs, medications, nutrition history, and treatment plan.
4. Provide individualized nutrition assessments, one-on-one counseling, and medical nutrition therapy recommendations based on patients specific therapies and nutrition needs.
5. Develop the nutritional care plan for patients based on lifestyle, food tolerances/preferences, cultural preferences, financial resources, etc. Evaluate the plan and revise as needed.
6. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team which includes physicians, nurses/nurse navigators, and social workers.
7. Document nutrition assessments and follow up notes in patients electronic medical records.
8. Assist in the development of patient education materials and presentations if needed for cancer patients and/or staff
9. Prepare monthly statistic reports on patient encounters for statistical analysis and benchmarking.
10. Serve as the primary nutrition resource for physicians, staff, and patients regarding specific nutritional needs.
11. Attend education programs to obtain CEUs to maintain status as effective and knowledgeable resource in the area of oncology nutrition.
12. Attend monthly staff meeting and meet with dietitian manager as scheduled.
13. Serve as a preceptor to dietetic interns as needed.
14. Perform other related duties assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Solid knowledge of clinical nutrition with emphasis on nutrition needs of cancer patients.
Excellent counseling skills and the ability to relate to a multi-ethic community and varied learning levels.
Ability and interest in developing and implementing nutrition education programs, developing tools to measure needs of patients and quality of service.
Strong interpersonal skills to establish productive working relationships with multidisciplinary team providing patients with comprehensive care with support of service departments.
Basic working knowledge of computer usage in the workplace and good verbal/writing skills
Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process as it relates to the nutrition needs of cancer patients and ability to apply all steps of the process.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree in nutrition, dietetics or related field of study from an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) accredited program.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Three (3 ) years of clinical experience working in acute care with nutrition support, specifically enteral nutrition preferred.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Registered Dietitian-Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Current Licensure in the State of Georgia as a Dietitian
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Work experience in oncology/cancer nutrition counseling preferred.
Strong communication skills.
Skilled in use of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and associated software programs.
Experience with Epic software preferred
