Job Summary:
As a Plant Operator specializing in Reciprocating Engines and Generators, you will play a vital role in the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the power generation equipment within our facility. You will be responsible for operating reciprocating engines, generators, and associated auxiliary equipment while ensuring compliance with safety protocols, monitoring equipment performance, and conducting routine maintenance tasks. The Plant Operator for Reciprocating Engine / Generator will contribute significantly to the seamless operation of our power plant, ensuring the provision of reliable and efficient power generation. Your attention to safety, operational excellence, and teamwork will be critical to the success of our facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Properly operate, inspect, and monitor in a safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound manner power plant equipment including:
o Natural Gas Fuel Systems
o Transformers and Electrical Equipment
o Monitoring & Safety Systems
  • Experience operating and maintaining reciprocating engines, generators, and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings to troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and follows safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public.
  • Take samples and perform routine laboratory tests and analysis.
  • Understand and execute the equipment clearance procedures.
  • Communicate information clearly, both orally and written.
  • Assist maintenance personnel in performance of maintenance activities to include use of tools, equipment, and company vehicle.
  • Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems.
  • Generate and review work requests for execution of equipment repair.
  • Implement plant emergency procedures as needed.
  • Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data.
  • Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems, and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures.
  • Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings.
Job Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of power generation principles and equipment functionality.
  • Familiarity with control systems, instrumentation, and equipment monitoring.
  • Ability to follow operational and safety procedures meticulously.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems and maintenance practices.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and fill-ins for absent employees.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying heavy equipment and materials (min. 50 lbs.).
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for equipment operation and maintenance tasks.
  • Normal or corrected-to-normal vision and hearing to accurately monitor equipment.
Education / Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical or vocational training in power plant operations is a plus
  • 3 years experience in plant operations, specifically with reciprocating engines and generators
