Description

SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for performing accounting tasks in support of the accounting team, including financial statement preparation and analysis, generating client invoices, and general ledger data entry. The Staff Accountant must have a strong working knowledge of accounting principles along with the ability to multi-task and problem-solve. Professionalism, flexibility, and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities with enthusiasm are essential. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform daily reconciliation of refund, lockbox, and operating bank accounts for all companies.
  • Prepare and record bi-weekly payroll journal entries.
  • Generate reports from the PathX system for use in calculating various payments.
  • Prepare monthly invoices to clients for billing and transcription services, and overhead/travel/billable expense reimbursements.
  • Prepare monthly financial statement packages for all companies.
  • Review the general ledger accounts for posting errors and make appropriate journal entries as needed to correct/adjust accounts. 
  • Perform the allocation of benefit expenses by company and reconcile benefit provider invoices.
  • Enter refund checks for Reliance and RHA into QuickBooks. 
  • Analyze financial data and assist in the preparation of ad hoc reports and analyses as requested.
  • Assist in gathering and preparing the necessary information for annual audits and operating budgets. 
  • Assist with routine clerical duties as assigned by supervisor or other team members, such as ordering lab supplies and making remote bank deposits. 
  • Other compatible duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee needs to: occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time; frequently communicate with physicians and laboratory employees regarding diagnostic codes (must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient in use of QuickBooks.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite, particularly advanced features and functionality of Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger accounting. 
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with other team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled preparation of professional correspondence.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
