Summary of Position

The clinical athletic trainer is responsible for general clinical and procedural patient care under the direction and direct supervision of the center's physician(s) and office manager.

Nature and Scope

The clinical athletic trainer is responsible for general clinical and procedural patient care. This includes, but is not limited to rooming patients, performing vitals, reviewing medications, and documenting patients' symptoms and medical history. Providing patient education on injury prevention and rehabilitation, such as exercises and stretching, Taping, bracing, casting, and fitting patients for durable medical equipment (DME). Maintaining supplies and equipment, assisting with procedures by sterilizing equipment/instruments, providing phlebotomy services, stitches/staple removal, and preparing injections. Entering physician orders for labs, imaging, procedures, therapy, DME, and referrals. Fosters a collaborative work environment by communicating treatment plans and progress with patients, field athletic trainers, physicians and other care providers, physical therapists, field/school athletic trainers, etc. Assures patient satisfaction by providing excellent customer service by using AIDET, responding promptly to patient calls and messages, and always displaying care, concern, and cooperation.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Athletic Training from an accredited program
• Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification and Licensure, or license eligible as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Ohio; maintains current certification with CEU requirements for both credentials.
• CPR Certified
• Thorough understanding of HIPAA law
• Prior experience in an ambulatory health care facility is preferred.
• Familiarity with EPIC EMR is strongly preferred.
