The Engineering Technician IV – VA will work directly for and assist the Assistant Program Manager – VA. The Engineering Technician IV – VA will be responsible for performing assignments that select or adapt standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents; applying practical knowledge and experience of basic engineering principles to assist in mechanical design modification and operational failure remedy; and conducting tests as directed by supervisors. The Engineering Technician IV – VA will be located in Williamsburg, VA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from a supervisor or engineer and performs tasks with supervision review once completed.
  • Assists in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts.
  • Develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications.
  • Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.
  • Uses judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seeks sources to clarify information.
  • Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment, as necessary.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions as necessary, with supervisory review for technical accuracy or conformance with instructions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma/GED or associate degree in engineering or applicable technical field.
  • Successful completion and/or current participation in technical school, trade school, or advanced armed services technical training curriculum.
  • Five years of experience in troubleshooting, supporting modifications, installations, and maintaining documentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic engineering principles, practices, and methods.
  • Relevant prior work experience, skills, and competencies/certifications desired.
  • Ability to interpret initial instructions and equipment requirements then work independently to complete objective (with advice from supervisor and engineers as needed).
  • Understanding of basic engineering principles, practices, and methods.
  • Ability to select or adapt standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents.
  • Strong experience with quality assurance (QA) standards and adhering to safety protocols.
  • Strong communications skills and ability to work well in a team environment alongside other engineers, technicians, program managers, contractors, and government personnel.
  • Excellent communication with engineering personnel, and interdepartmental supervisors.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background check, as required.
