Phoenix Elementary School District 1 is Hiring a Behavior Intervention Specialist-District Wide Near Phoenix, AZ

 The behavior interventionist works specifically with K-8 students who have a need to improve their behavior in order to focus more clearly on academic instruction. The focus of the behavior interventionist is to work with students to develop effective learning behaviors and appropriate interactions with teachers and classmates. The goal of the interventionist is to ensure that students manage their behavior in order to be able to focus and become more successful academically.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides guidance to the IEP team.
  • Provides effective student behavior improvement sessions.
  • Continuously monitor behavioral and academic progress of students receiving behavioral services, in order to adjust practices and student grouping.
  • Communicates and collaborates with classroom teachers and families regarding students’ behavioral and academic improvement.
  • Supports the site-level School-Wide Plan through facilitation and/or participation at in-services, grade-level team meetings, and staff meetings.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers, coaches, and contracted consultants.
  • Provides consultation, support, and advocacy for behavioral programs on-site and across the schools in the district.
  • Provides program-specific training related to students with behavioral needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or Counseling
  • Arizona Teaching Certificate or appropriate social work/counseling certification
  • Experience teaching K-8 students

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Three to five years of teaching experience
  • Experience working with behavior intervention programs.
  • A proven track record of having a positive effect on diverse learners, including English Language Learners and Special Education students.
  • BCBA or BCABA certification
  • Bilingual in Spanish

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Scientifically Based Behavior Research (SBRR) specifically related to K-8 students.
  • Purpose and components of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, Character Counts, or other intervention resources.

Skilled in:

  • Collaboratively work with K-8 staff to effectively improve students’ behavior to in turn improve students’ academic abilities.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.

Ability to:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, and work cooperatively with students, peers, and parents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and can vary in temperature. The nature of this position is fast-paced and may occasionally be thought of as stressful. Through interaction with the public and other district employees, the employee may encounter different scents.
