Job Overview

The Parent Educator Program Coordinator (PEPC) will devote time to supporting the Focus on Fathers Program with outreach and the Relationships Education in the Mix (REMix) through program coordination, intake, group facilitation, reporting and outreach activities. The employee is responsible for conducting outreach to recruit underserved populations for participation in services through the Health Promotion Council, with a special emphasis on engaging fathers and parents. The activities include participation in community and public events, such as health fairs, community days, and events held at key organizations that attract and serve community members (e.g., churches, grocery stores, barbershops, etc.), as well as direct outreach to organizations and businesses in targeted communities. The employee provides parenting education sessions to fathers, couples, co-parents and other caretakers of children. The PEPC will also be responsible for communicating directly with funding source, DHS Parenting Collaborative. This position will have both internal project coordination responsibilities, as well as outward-facing responsibilities. As such; this position requires strong project and timeline management skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:

· Coordinate program activities, including supporting Program Manager and Assistant Director for Family Services and direct supervision of staff and staff activities.

· Maintain a point of contact with referral sources and potential clients to services.

· Identify and outreach to community organizations and businesses in targeted communities.

· Establish relationships with leadership at various community organizations.

· Provide community education about services available through REMix and Focus on Fathers.

· Promote the programs and our services at various community outreach events such as health fairs, and community days.

· Maintain ongoing knowledge of the rules and regulations of public health programs. Make referrals to such programs as needed.

· Maintain the highest level of confidentiality to ensure trust among consumers and HPC.

· Call interested potential clients to gather additional information before making referrals for services.

· Maintain data tracking sheets of all program contacts, including dates and types of events, number of individuals reached through group or one-on-one communication, and referrals made.

· Assist in the coordination of outreach and community events for REMix and Focus on Fathers.

· Provide on-going parenting skills education groups for fathers, couples and co-parents at various community-based sites, using established curricula;

· Work with staff and partner organizations to effectively market program and recruit participants.

· Maintain current schedule, record-keeping, and program outcome/evaluation reporting for all assigned sites.

· Work with management team to maintain strong and positive relationships with program partners; serve as primary point of contact for staff at partner organizations.

· Maintain up-to-date tracking in the Excel on the M-drive

· Prepare for classes by attending trainings and staff meetings.

· Make referrals to program case manager and to community agencies and organizations for additional services and resources not provided by the program;

· Work with the program team to assist in the delivery of other program activities;

· Participate in staff meetings, trainings, community events and other related meetings;

· Assist with developing, revising, and reviewing education materials.

· Complete program reports and other written documentation as required;

· Work collaboratively between other programs in HPC and other agencies/organizations; and

· All other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Levels:

Essential

· At least three years of experience in conducting parenting education or other adult-learning groups.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Flexibility, organizational skills, and ability to complete directives and meet deadlines required.

· Comfortable working with adults in low-income communities.

· Personal commitment to promoting and being a role model for fathers, couples/co-parents.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple assignments

· Knowledge of issues related to child development, family life skills, child abuse prevention, healthy relationships, and healthy parenting

· Availability during daytime and some evening hours

· Proficiency with using email and MS Office applications to communicate information with team members.

· Clear child abuse, criminal history checks and FBI clearance.

· Must be willing to travel locally. Valid driver’s license, insurance and car required.

· Experience successfully coordinating community events with multiple stakeholders

· Knowledge of social service agencies and resources in Philadelphia

· Knowledge of public health theories, principles, and practices

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

· Bachelor’s degree in social work, child development, psychology, or related field.
