PROGRAM: Family Based Services (FBS)

ROLE TYPE: Full-time

JOB OVERVIEW:

Provide therapeutic interventions with families participating in Family Based Services (FBS), a home- and community-based behavioral health program. Work as part of a team to find solutions using a systemic approach to working with families.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master’s degree in a field related to mental health

Experience:

  • At least two years of experience working with children/adolescents in a mental health, chemical dependency, child welfare, or juvenile justice setting
  • Strongly preferred: Background in family therapy and trauma treatment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of home-based services and child welfare, mental health, drug and alcohol, and juvenile justice
  • Ability to work with families in crisis

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Major highlights of the position requirements are noted below. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required.

  • Provide family-centered home- and community-based services to referred families including trauma treatment, individual/family/couples therapy, life skills education, parenting education, advocacy, information, referrals, and counseling.
  • Be responsible for addressing defined problems, as specified in the treatment plan, utilizing a strength-based approach to treatment.
  • Serve as the lead clinician and take a leadership role in the development and implementation of the youth’s and family’s treatment plan.
  • Provide counseling services that are family-centered with a systemic approach.
  • Assess the risk of child abuse and neglect and provide appropriate interventions to families.
  • Assess family and individual functioning, plan goals, and identify resources.
  • Maintain and complete accurate paperwork including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and reports within required time frames.
  • Involve the family in planning outcomes.
  • Work with the county agency or insurance provider in planning and coordinating services.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of available community resources by providing appropriate information and referrals.
  • Work within the norms and systems of the clinic, school, or community-based setting and represent the agency professionally, remembering you are in “someone else’s house.”
  • Actively network in the community to build on local assets to strengthen families.
  • Perform other activities related to in-home and counseling services as needed.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in supervision.
  • Participate in department meetings and consultations.
  • Participate in all agency-wide and departmental training.
  • Represent the department on specific agency committees.
  • Submit agency paperwork within the required time frames.

SCHEDULE:

  • Be available to work up to three evenings per week.
  • Work flexible hours as required.
  • Participate in the emergency on-call system.
  • Transfer to other programs as part of the agency’s response to community needs.

TRAINING:

  • Attend mandated orientation.
  • Comply with agency and program annual training requirements.
  • Attend weekly group and team supervision as required.
