Phelps County Bank is Hiring a Mortgage Loan Officer Near Springfield, MO

Summary of Position

Perform the basic duties associated with the origination, underwriting, and closing of real estate loans, secured/unsecured consumer and/or commercial loans in accordance with federal guidelines and established lending objectives, policies and procedures; establish and maintain positive relationships with existing and potential customers, by performing the below duties.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in the field of business plus additional training (National Commercial Lending School), including specific courses in accounting, finance, and economics;
  • or six to eight years banking experience and/or training;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with "Encompass - Loan Origination Software" is desired.

Outcomes and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Interview applicants and request specified information for loan application; coordinate ordering of appraisals, title work, credit reports, background/reference checks, and appropriate credit documentation to evaluate loan applications.
  • Analyze applicant financial status, credit and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan requests for all types of loans sold on secondary market and all products in loan portfolio.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of loans, compile loan packages, and facilitate negotiation (fees, repayments, credit terms) with applicant according to standards, underwriting referral, compliance with federal guidelines, timely closing and loan funding.
  • Thorough knowledge of secondary market, in-house, and government loan programs and application of such to meet customer needs. Assist Chief Lending Officer with program changes, underwriting standards updates, and licensing/approval with various government programs and agencies.
  • Maintain knowledge of secondary market mortgage products and underwriting guidelines of each program, counsel loan applicants and make recommendations to fit financial needs. Assist in the development of new software products for mortgage loans and other loan products.
  • Assist with customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Maintain relationships with loan businesses, brokers, builders, CPAs, attorneys and others, providing information regarding lending programs and policies.
  • Participate in PCB business development, represent the Bank in industry and professional associations, the community, business groups, etc., promoting a favorable image.
  • Attend necessary workshops and conferences such as but not limited to FHA, VA, Rural Development, and other workshops to gain a thorough knowledge of the loan programs.
  • Proactively work on the development and cultivation of relationships with local real estate agents and assist in the development of new mortgage products and the marketing of those products to the public and Realtors.
  • Assist in the training and development of Loan Officer Trainees and Loan Assistants for processing, packaging, underwriting and closing of all types of in-house loan products and real estate products.
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and troubleshoot any problems that arise in underwriting and processing of loans. Quickly and accurately resolve these issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Participate in the collection procedures and processes of the loan officer to assure the timely collection of all delinquent accounts and develop revised loan repayment terms or schedules as necessary.

  • Reading and interpreting various documents and policies, writing reports, and communicating effectively and appropriately with colleagues and customers.
  • Strong fundamental mathematical skills and attention to detail.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting practical problems.
  • Ability to learn new tools, software, and equipment at a fast pace.

Essential Functions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
