The position is initially 20 hours per week and may increase with time. The position is located in Bedford, MA.Summary: PharmaEssentia Innovation Research Center (PIRC) is seeking an Senior Accountant to join our rapidly growing research and development center. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to join our growing biotech company. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on professional with a strong background in accounting, financial management, and a deep understanding of the unique financial considerations within the biotech industry. As PIRC is essentially in startup mode with the full backing of PharmaEssentia HQ, this is an exciting time for PIRC and the Accounting Manager will have great influence in developing and growing PIRC from the ground floor up.What You’ll Do: 

  1. Financial Management:
    • Oversee all aspects of the company's financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
    • Manage cash flow and working capital to support operational needs.
  1. Financial Reporting:
    • Lead the preparation and review of accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with GAAP/IFRS.
    • Ensure the integrity of financial data and reporting.
  1. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets and provide ongoing financial forecasts.
    • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
  1. Audit and Compliance:
    • Coordinate and lead external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
    • Establish and maintain effective internal controls.
  1. Tax Management:
    • Work closely with tax professionals to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
    • Optimize tax strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities.
  1. Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with various departments, including research and development, operations, and sales, to understand their financial needs.
    • Provide financial guidance and support for cross-functional projects.
  1. Process Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the finance function.
    • Implement efficient financial procedures to enhance overall effectiveness.
  1. ERP Systems:
    • Oversee the utilization and management of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for financial transactions, reporting, and analysis.
  1. Team Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Requirements:
  • CPA, Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in accounting with 5 years of relevant experience, with a focus on the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles, including US GAAP, and the ability to apply them to new or existing transactions.
  • Audit experience at a Big 4 firm, or other nationally recognized accounting firm.
  • Financial systems experience with ability to drive system changes and improvements (SAP S4HANA, Concur).
  • Proven ability to produce timely and accurate results within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to predict, diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Ability to innovate and use technology to improve processes and performance.
  • Desire for continuous improvement and challenging the status quo.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail and organizational skills.
